   NEW YORK (AFN/BLOOMBERG) - Het Duitse technologieconcern Siemens gaat 11.600 banen schrappen om zijn kosten met 1 miljard euro te verlagen. Dat heeft topman Joe Kaeser gezegd bij een webcastconferentie in New York.
   Ongeveer 7600 arbeidsplaatsen zullen verloren gaan door het stroomlijnen van het bedrijf en de creatie van een nieuwe divisiestructuur en nog eens 4000 banen moeten verdwijnen als gevolg van het regionaal samenvoegen van activiteiten. Duitse zakenmedia meldden eerder dat Siemens van plan was 10.000 arbeidsplaatsen te schrappen, vooral bij zijn vestiging in Erlangen en bij het hoofdkantoor in München.
   
   Siemens is bezig met een omvangrijke reorganisatie om kosten te besparen en efficiënter en winstgevender te worden. Vorig jaar kondigde het bedrijf al aan wereldwijd 15.000 banen te schrappen.
   
   Het concern werkt verder aan een tegenbod op de Franse branchegenoot Alstom. Het Amerikaanse General Electric (GE) wil voor meer dan 12 miljard euro de energie-activiteiten van Alstom overnemen. Siemens heeft gezegd voor 16 juni met een officieel bod op Alstom te komen.

   Siemens wins order for Mulpic intensive plate cooling system from CSC
   
   China Steel Corporation, a Taiwanese steel producer, has ordered a Mulpic (multi purpose interrupted cooling) system from Siemens Metals Technologies.
   
   The intensive cooling line will be installed in the company's existing plate rolling mill in Kaohsiung, Taiwan and is scheduled to be commissioned in June 2015.
   
   The Mulpic system facilitates direct quenching and will extend CSC's product portfolio to include highly wear resistant plates.
   
   The company's plate rolling mill has an annual capacity of some 1.1 million tonnes and until now has been equipped with an ACC (Accelerated Cooling) system. The new Mulpic system from Siemens can achieve significantly higher cooling rates, which enables the plates to be quenched directly. This will widen CSC's product mix which, in future, will include highly wear resistant plates for offshore, shipbuilding and pressure vessel applications.
   
   Siemens will also supply the electrical and automation equipment for the Mulpic system. The cooling models for the existing ACC system will also be provided and integrated into the process models of the Level 2 automation. Mulpic intensive cooling allows not only faster cooling during thermo mechanical rolling, but also direct quenching of the plates. Advanced actuators are an integral part of the machine. These ensure uniform properties along the plate length and across the plate width, and minimize the need for further processing.

   Strukton krijgt opdracht van Siemens

   UTRECHT (AFN) - Strukton Rolling Stock gaat de aandrijfsystemen leveren voor de door Siemens nieuw te bouwen Cityval en Airval lightrailvoertuigen. Dat maakte de onderneming vrijdag bekend. De eerste concrete opdracht die onder deze deal valt, is het leveren van de aandrijfsystemen voor 19 nieuwe metrovoertuigen voor een metrolijn in Franse stad Rennes. Financiële details over de transactie zijn niet bekendgemaakt.
   Strukton, dat eigendom is van de beursgenoteerde houdstermaatschappij Oranjewoud, leverde eerder al tractieomvormers voor de renovatie van de bestaande volautomatische, onbemande metrovoertuigen in Chicago en Toulouse. Met de opdracht van Siemens komen daar ook nieuw te leveren voertuigen (Cityval en Airval) bij. VAL staat voor Véhicule Automatique Léger.

   Siemens to supply ArcelorMittal Gent with performance enhanced LiquiRob
   
   Belgian steel producer ArcelorMittal Gent has ordered a LiquiRob casting platform robot from Siemens Metals Technologies to be installed on continuous slab caster CC2. It will perform a number of potentially dangerous tasks automatically, including taking samples, measuring temperatures and hydrogen levels at the distributor, as well as ladle lancing. In future, the ladle shroud will also be manipulated with the aid of the LiquiRob. The new casting platform robot is due to go on stream by September 2014, and will also improve work ing safety conditions at the CC2.

   ArcelorMittal Gent's integrated production plant is part of the Flat Carbon Europe Division. The company produces some five milli on metric tons of flat steel a year, for example, for the automotive and domestic appliance industries. The steel is produced in LD converters with a tap weight of 300 tonnes and cast by two continuous slab casters. The CC2 casting plant has an annual production capacity of three million metric tons. It produces slab s with a thickness of 220 millimeters in widths ranging from 950 to 2,000 millimeters.
   
   The casting platform robot from Siemens will handle tasks on continuous slab caster CC2 that have previously been performed by the plant personnel. This will increase safety at work and improve the reproducib ility of measurements. In 2013 Siemens modernized the slag stopper system on two ArcelorMittal Gent LD converters, as well as the drive technology in the finishing train of the hot rolling mill.

   Siemens appoints Ms Janina Kugel as new Chief Diversity Officer
   
   Effective July 1st 2014, Mr Janina Kugel will assume the position of Chief Diversity Officer for Siemens AG in addition to her current responsibilities as Head of Personnel Strategy and Executive Development.
   
   Ms Kugel replaces Mr Denice Kronau, who is leaving the company on May 31st 2014 by mutual agreement to further pursue her writing and speaking career.
   
   Mr Joe Kaeser president & CEO of Siemens said that "Ms Kronau's outstanding contributions as CDO and leader of Siemens' Diversity Initiative ensured that Diversity has become a significant part of the Siemens values. I wholeheartedly thank Ms. Kronau for driving Diversity in Siemens globally with such enthusiasm and credibility. She has been a living example of leadership and employee communication, walking the talk every day."
   
   Under Ms Kronau's leadership the Diversity Initiative achieved notable successes. In the past three years the number of women in leadership positions at Siemens has increased by 15% to about 16%. However, women now hold a 10% share of all senior management positions, representing a 43% gain over the same period (as of end of fiscal year 2013).
   
   Diversity will in future have the status of a corporate function within Siemens. This reflects both the strides made by the company's initial Diversity Initiative and the importance Diversity is gaining within Siemens.
   
   Ms Janina Kugel said that "The numbers confirm that Siemens' engagement with Diversity as a business topic has got off to a great start.    MÜNCHEN (AFN/BLOOMBERG) - Siemens praat met het Japanse Mitsubishi Heavy Industries over een gezamenlijk bod op de energietak van het Franse Alstom. Dat stelden bronnen rond het Duitse concern woensdag.
   Siemens zou met de Japanse steun willen opboksen tegen een bod van 12,4 miljard euro dat het Amerikaanse conglomeraat General Electric (GE) bij Alstom op tafel heeft gelegd. Siemens noch Mitsubishi wilde op het bericht reageren. Het Duitse bedrijf heeft zichzelf tot 16 juni de tijd gegeven om al dan niet met een bod te komen. Duitse media meldden dat het bestuur zondag bijeenkomt voor een vergadering.
   
   De Franse minister van Industrie Arnaud Montebourg sprak aanvankelijk zijn voorkeur uit voor een overname door Siemens. Later raakte hij gecharmeerd van het bod van GE, dat de Franse regering onder meer beloofde 1000 banen te creëren.

   TOKIO (AFN) - Het Duitse Siemens en het Japanse Mitsubishi Heavy Industries willen samen circa 1 biljoen yen (7,2 miljard euro) betalen voor de energie-activiteiten van het Franse industrieconcern Alstom. Dat meldde de Japanse zakenkrant Nikkei donderdag.
   Mitsubishi zou daarbij samen met het Japanse Hitachi een samenwerkingsverband willen opzetten dat voor 500 miljard yen de stoomturbine-activiteiten van Alstom koopt, terwijl Siemens dan voor 500 miljard yen het gasturbine-onderdeel krijgt. De elektriciteitsnetwerk-activiteiten van Alstom zouden geen onderdeel uitmaken van de deal.
   
   Woensdag werd gemeld dat Siemens en Mitsubishi samen willen optrekken bij Alstom om zo tegenwicht te bieden aan het bod van meer dan 12 miljard euro van het Amerikaanse General Electric (GE) op de energiedivisie van Alstom.

   MÜNCHEN (AFN/BLOOMBERG) - Siemens brengt samen met het Japanse Mitsubishi Heavy Industries een bod uit op verscheidene branches van de energietak van het Franse bedrijf Alstom. De biedingen zijn samen circa 7 miljard euro waard, zo maakten de bedrijven maandag bekend.
   Siemens biedt 3,9 miljard euro voor de gasturbine-activiteiten van Alstom. Mitsubishi is geïnteresseerd in de stoomturbine-tak van het bedrijf, waarvoor het 3,1 miljard euro op tafel wil leggen.
   
   De bieding omvat ook het voorstel om een transportgroep op te richten waarin de trein-divisies van Siemens en Alstom op den duur worden samengevoegd.
   
   Met het bod gaat Siemens officieel de concurrentiestrijd aan met het Amerikaanse General Electric, dat al eerder meer dan 12 miljard euro heeft geboden op de energiedivisie van Alstom en al in gesprek is met het bestuur van het bedrijf.

   PARIJS (AFN) - Het gezamenlijke bod van Siemens en Mitsubishi Heavy Industries op het Franse industriële concern Alstom overtreft dat van concurrent General Electric (GE). Dat stelde het Duitse concern dinsdag bij een presentatie van het bod in Parijs.
   Maandag maakten Siemens en het Japanse Mitsubishi bekend in totaal 7 miljard euro te bieden op de diverse energietakken van Alstom. Daarnaast werden voorstellen gedaan om onder meer de treindivisies van Alstom en Siemens samen te voegen, waarmee de waarde van het bod in totaal op 14,2 miljard euro zou uitkomen. GE deed eerder een bod met een totale waarde van 12,4 miljard euro op de energie-activiteiten van Alstom.
   
   Deskundigen gaven dinsdag aan dat Siemens een moeilijk bod heeft opgetuigd met Mitsubishi, dat op zijn beurt weer samenwerkt met het eveneens Japanse Hitachi. “Het ziet er financieel wellicht aantrekkelijker uit, maar het is ook ingewikkelder”, stelde een analist van Commerzbank. Volgens ingewijden vindt Alstom het bod zelf ook te complex. Zo zou het bedrijf niets zien in de voorgestelde splitsing van de gas- en stoomturbinedivisies.
   
   Geen interesse
   
   GE liet naar aanleiding van het concurrerende bod weten geen interesse te hebben in een biedingsstrijd met Siemens en zijn partners. Het Amerikaanse concern zou echter wel bereid zijn om concessies te doen, die zorgen van de Franse overheid weg kunnen nemen. De regering van president François Hollande zet zich nadrukkelijk in voor het behoud van Alstom, en de banen die het concern biedt, voor de Franse industrie.
   
   Alstom sprak eerder zijn steun uit voor het bod van GE. Siemens hoopt echter op steun van Frankrijk en Duitsland, bij zijn pogingen om samen met Alstom Europese reuzen op het gebied van energie en transport te creëren.
   
   Topbestuurders van Siemens en Mitsubishi spraken dinsdag met Hollande. Die sprak eerder ook al met de leiders van GE over hun plannen met Alstom. Volgens ingewijden vindt de regering dat alle betrokken partijen hun bod nog moeten verbeteren.

    Siemens en Mitsubishi verhogen bod op Alstom
    
    FRANKFURT (Dow Jones)--Siemens ag (SIE.XE) en Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (7011.TO) hebben hun gezamenlijke bod op de energie-activiteiten van het Franse conglomeraat Alstom sa (ALO.FR) vrijdag verhoogd in reactie op het verbeterde bod van concurrent General Electric co (GE) een dag eerder.
    
    In een verklaring melden de twee bedrijven dat ze de structuur van hun bod hebben versimpeld en dat er nog eens EUR1,2 miljard in contanten extra wordt geboden. Hiermee komt de totale waardering op EUR14,6 miljard.
    
    Mitsubishi zou na een eventuele overname een belang van 40% krijgen in de gecombineerde stoom-, afrastering- en hydro-activiteiten van Alstom. Die activiteiten komen dan in e e n bedrijf in plaats van dat er drie aparte joint-ventures worden gecreeerd, zoals dit in een eerder bod nog werd voorgesteld.
    
    Siemens doet met het nieuwe bod het voorstel tot een directe joint-venture van de Mobility Management activiteiten van het Duitse bedrijf en Alstom.
    
    Het Amerikaanse conglomeraat GE wil door zijn verbeterde bod drie joint-ventures opzetten met Alstom en een wereldwijde alliantie starten met Alstom Transport. Bovendien zou de Franse overheid een 'preferent aandeel' krijgen binnen de samengevoegde nucleaire activiteiten van GE en Alstom.
    
    Het bod van ruim EUR12 miljard is niet verhoogd. Alstom heeft tot 23 juni de tijd om in te gaan op het bod van GE.

    Siemens and Baosteel cooperate in slag granulation solutions
    
    Siemens Metals Technologies and Baosteel Engineering & Technology Group Company Limited, a subsidiary of the Baosteel group, will be cooperating in future in the granulation of slag produced in BOF converters and electric arc furnaces.
    
    Their collaboration focuses on joint marketing and implementation of the Baosteel Slag Short Flow technology in steel mills worldwide with the exception of China and Korea.
    
    In the BSSF granulation process developed by Baosteel, the liquid slag is transferred to a granulation drum where it is treated with injected water with a dwell time between three and five minutes, which significantly reduces the amount of unreacted free lime. The hermetically sealed vessel and central vapor extraction system ensure that all emissions of dust and hazardous substances are avoided.
    
    The process is already in use at Baosteel and several other Chinese steel producers, the Korean POSCO group and the Indian JSW company. The batch-wise operating BSSF plants have short process times and a compact design. They achieve a high level of slag and crude steel metal separation, uniform granulation and a consistently high quality in the end products.

    Siemens to supply rebar rolling mill to Thai Steel
    
    Siemens Metals Technologies has received an order from Thai Steel Profile Co Ltd to supply a new bar rolling mill for its plant in Rayong, Thailand.
    
    The rolling mill will produce around 500,000 tonnes of reinforcing steel per annum with diameters ranging from 9 to 40 millimeters. Diameters up to 14 millimeters will be rolled in multi-slit mode.
    
    The starting material for the bar rolling mill will comprise 12 meter billets of carbon steel with a square cross-section of 150 x 150 millimeters
    
    Commissioning is scheduled for the second half of 2015.
    
    The rolling line will consist of a roughing mill and an intermediate mill, each with six Red Ring stands in an HV arrangement, and a finishing mill, featuring six Red Ring stands in an HVC arrangement. An inline PQS quenching system gives the bars a martensitic case and a ferritic-pearlitic core. The downstream hot dividing shear is equipped with an optimization system to maximize the utilization of the cooling bed and bar handling system. The cooling bed is 78 meters long and 12.5 meters wide. A cold static dividing shear handles the final cutting of the rolled bars. This is followed by automatic counting, bundling, strapping, weighing machines and bending of bundles. The scope of delivery also includes all the rolling guides and fluid systems.
    
    The bar rolling mill is designed so that the plant can be retro-equipped at a later date with an induction furnace to optimize billet reheating while reducing the amount of formed scale, and an ERT-EBROS billet welding system to allow endless rolling.
    
    Siemens is responsible for the design of the equipment supplied, the entire process planning of the bar rolling mill, and customer training. It will also assist Thai Steel with the construction, startup and commissioning of the plant.
    
    Founded in 1994, Thai Steel already runs a bar and profile rolling mill in Rayong Province, which has a capacity of 400,000 tonnes per annum. Siemens modernized that plant starting from 2010 in multiple stages, including a hardening system, precise bar counting, new bar in coil and upgrade to produce sections, squares and flats.

    'Siemens overweegt verkoop medisch onderdeel'

    MÜNCHEN (AFN) - Het Duitse technologieconcern Siemens overweegt een onderdeel af te stoten dat IT-diensten en bijbehorende technologie levert aan ziekenhuizen. Dat meldde financieel persbureau Bloomberg maandag op gezag van ingewijden.
    Siemens zou alle opties voor het onderdeel tegen het licht houden, wat doorgaans betekent dat aan een verkoop wordt gedacht. De activiteiten zouden meer dan 1 miljard euro kunnen opleveren, aldus de bronnen.
    
    Hoewel de medische tak het meest winstgevende onderdeel van Siemens is, wil topman Joe Kaeser het concern meer richting de energie- en industriemarkten sturen. Afgelopen najaar werd ook al gespeculeerd op een mogelijke verkoop van de gehele medische divisie, die concurreert met onder meer Philips.

    Siemens to modernize off gas cleaning system in TATA Steel's converter steel plant
    
    Siemens Metals Technologies has received an order from TATA Steel, an Indian steel producer, to modernize the secondary emission system in LD2 shop in Jamshedpur. The aim is to reduce emissions both in the plant itself and in the exhaust air to reduce to a level as per the regulatory norms.
    
    In future, dust levels in the factory will be less than 4 mg/Nm3, and will not exceed 30 mg/Nm3 at the stack. The project is part of TATA Steel's campaign to reduce its local environmental impact and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2016.
    
    TATA Steel runs an integrated steel plant in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand State, India, which has an annual production capacity of 9.7 million tonnes of crude steel. There are three LD (BOF) converters with tapping weights between 165 tonnes and 180 tonnes.
    
    Siemens will comprehensively modernize the existing secondary emission system in the steel plant. Siemens will also design, engineer, manufacture and supply the requisite equipment. This includes induced draught fans, electrostatic precipitators and systems to handle and transport the filtered dust, as well as the associated electric motors, drives and the automation hardware and software.
    
    Siemens will also modernize two existing electrostatic precipitators and modify the duct system and the converter housings. In advance of the order, Siemens carried out an analysis of the emissions in the converter steel plant, and made recommendations for improvement which will be implemented under the order. Siemens will also be responsible for supervising the installation and commissioning work.

    AMSTERDAM (AFN) - De financiering van Windpark Westermeerwind is rond. 18 jaar nadat het plan voor het windpark in het IJsselmeer ontstond, kan worden begonnen met de aanleg. Dat maakten betrokken partijen vrijdag bekend.
    Een groep banken onder leiding van ING en Rabobank treedt op als financiers. Met de financiering is een bedrag van rond de 320 miljoen euro gemoeid.
    
    Siemens gaat het park bouwen en onderhouden voor een periode van 15 jaar. Verschillende Nederlandse bedrijven doen mee, waaronder een consortium van Ballast Nedam en Mammoet. De contractwaarde voor dit consortium bedraagt circa 60 miljoen euro.
    
    Eneco
    
    Het park bestaat uit 48 windturbines die langs de dijken van de Noordoostpolder in het water van het IJsselmeer komen te staan. Energiebedrijf Eneco gaat 15 jaar lang de stroom afnemen. De capaciteit van het park is goed voor 160.000 huishoudens.
    
    Het park moet er in maart 2016 in zijn geheel staan, maar de verwachting is dat eind 2015 de eerste windmolens al stroom gaan leveren.
    
    Initiatief
    
    Windpark Westermeerwind komt er op initiatief van projectontwikkelaar Westermeerwind, een onderneming die in 1996 door twee agrariërs en windpioniers uit de Noordoostpolder werd opgericht. Inwoners van de Noordoostpolder, Urk en Lemsterland kunnen vanaf 2017 financieel deelnemen in het windpark door aandelen en obligaties te kopen.
    
    De bouw van het windpark start direct na de zomervakantie. Begonnen wordt met een transformatiestation en een kabeltracé op land. Volgend jaar maart starten de werkzaamheden op het water.
    
    Volgens bestuurder Bernard Fortuyn van Siemens Nederland levert het project tijdens de bouwfase zo'n 150 extra banen in de regio op en daarna gedurende 15 jaar werkgelegenheid voor ongeveer 30 technici en andere vaklieden.

    Cerner neemt Siemens informatietechnologie business over
    
    AMSTERDAM (Dow Jones)--Cerner Corp. (CERN) neemt Siemens AG's (SIE.XE) health care informatietechnologie eenheid over voor $1,3 miljard in contanten.
    
    Als onderdeel van de overeenkomst gaan Cerner en Siemens een driejarige strategie alliantie aan voor de health IT activiteiten van Cerner en de medische apparaten van Siemens.
    
    De deal zal naar verwachting in het eerste kwartaal voltooid worden en voor meer dan $0,15 bijdragen aan Cerner's aangepast winst per aandeel in 2015 en meer dan $0,25 in 2016.
    
    Cerner, gestationeerd in Kansas City, maakt software voor ziekenhuizen en andere medische faciliteiten. De afgelopen jaren heeft het concern geprofiteerd van de verschuiving door zorgverleners en ziekenhuizen naar digitale archivering.
    
    "Vanuit een strategisch perspectief, sluit dit echt goed aan bij onze organisatie", aldus Cerner president Zane M. Burke, terwijl hij verwijst naar de 'gecombineerde schaalgrootte en middelen' van de bedrijven.
    
    Functionarissen van Cerner stellen dat de acquisitie van Siemens Health activiteiten een entiteit zal creeeren met een geschatte $4,5 miljard aan jaarlijkse omzet, met circa $650 miljoen voor research en ontwikkeling.

    Siemens delivers steam turbine-generator sets and I&C components to India
    
    Siemens Energy is supplying high-efficiency steam turbine-generator sets with associated instrumentation & control components to power plant projects in India.
    
    The machines are destined for the coal-fired units of the North Karanpura Super Thermal Power Project located in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand and for IB Thermal Power Station Banharpalli in the neighboring state of Odisha.
    
    These turbine generators deliver a combined installed electrical generating capacity of over 3,300 MW. The customer is the Indian company Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Siemens' licensed partner in India.
    
    The coal fired North Karanpura Super Thermal Power Project consists of three power plant units generating a total output of 1,980 MW. It will be the first coal fired power plant in India to operate with state-of-the-art supercritical steam parameters of 593°C/593°C at 260 bar, providing highly efficient, environmentally friendly power generation.
    
    To save on water, a scarce resource in the region, the plant is equipped for air-cooling, likewise a first in India in this performance class. Siemens' scope of supply comprises for Unit 1, a Model SST5-6000 steam turbine and a SGen5-3000H-series generator, as well as instrumentation & control components for the turbine-generator set.
    
    For Units 2 and 3 the company delivers the instrumentation & control components for the turbine-generator sets. BHEL is erecting the plant on a turnkey basis for India's National Thermal Power Corporation. Delivery of the machinery is scheduled for 2016, while commercial operation is set to launch in 2018.
    
    For Units 3 of coal fired 1320 MW IB Thermal Power Station Banharpalli, Siemens is supplying a Model SST5-6000 steam turbine and one SGen5-3000H- generator with accompanying turbine-generator I&C components.
    
    For Unit 4 the company delivers the instrumentation & control components for the turbine-generator set. BHEL is constructing the new units for Odisha Power Generation Corporation Limited.
    
    Mr Wilfried Ulm, CEO of the Business Unit Steam Turbines at Siemens Energy, said that "These orders are further testimony to the success story we have enjoyed with our long-term licensing partner BHEL. India is an attractive and highly competitive market with enormous potential.”
