   Siemens to provide equipment for South Stream's LNG pipeline
   
   RIA Novosti reported that Germany's Siemens AG has struck a deal to provide the ambitious South Stream natural gas pipeline project with control and measurement equipment for its offshore leg.
   
   Gazprom said that the German electronics concern was to supply the project with telecom technology and automated control systems for the pipeline sections to be built underwater near the Bulgarian and Russian coastlines, as well as for control rooms at the South Stream Transport company.
   
   South Steam's offshore leg will comprise four parallel pipelines that will run across the bed of the Black Sea. Each pipeline will be over 930 kilometers long and have a capacity of up to 40 million cubic meters of natural gas per day. Gas flows will be monitored and controlled around the clock by South Stream Transport.
   
   The South Stream pipeline, expected to come online in 2018, is currently under construction by Stream Transport B.V., with Gazprom holding 50% of its shares. The Italian Eni company accounts for an additional 20%, with Germany's Wintershall and France's EDF holding 15% each.
   
   The tender for the first of the four offshore pipelines was awarded in March to Italy's Saipem S.p.A., a subsidiary of energy giant Eni. South Stream Transport said it had already signed a contract for the delivery of some 150,000 pipe segments.
   
   South Stream is a Russian initiated gas pipeline project that will transport Russian natural gas across the Black Sea to Bulgaria and farther to EU countries, bypassing Ukraine.

   Siemens storage logistics system accepted by ArcelorMittal Eisenhuttenstadt
   
   Steel producer ArcelorMittal Eisenhuttenstadt GmbH has issued Siemens Metals Technologies with the acceptance certificate for the new storage logistics system in its finishing department.
   
   The Simetal Siloc logistics system now provides the company with a precise picture of its stock at all times and the over 40,000 slabs that pass through the slab storage each year. It not only enhances the composition of the stacks of slabs, but also automates logging of manual restacking operations.
   
   Simetal Siloc thus improves workflows and simplifies stock control. Cycle times have also been reduced because the slabs can be fed to the rolling mills at a higher temperature.
   
   Dr Ralf Bosler primary CEO at ArcelorMittal Eisenhuttenstadt GmbH said that "The new Siemens system, above all, meets future requirements for the planned modification and optimization of the technological and logistic processes in our company. The advanced strategies for storing and retrieving the slabs provide a good basis in particular."
   
   In Eisenhüttenstadt, in the German state of Brandenburg, the main products are high quality, coated flat steels for the automotive industry, together with steel products for domestic appliances and the construction industry. The new Simetal Siloc storage logistics system from Siemens is part of a program to modernize the automation, and thereby increase the efficiency of hot strip production.
   
   In the finishing department of the converter steel plant of ArcelorMittal Eisenhuttenstadt, slabs and blooms are accepted, inspected, transported, stored, processed according to scheduling and quality specifications, prepared for further processing in the hot rolling mill and finally finished for dispatch. The plant personnel have to constantly coordinate the movements of twelve cranes, various storage areas, a number of roller tables, trolleys, inspection tables, heat recovery and the slitting and cross cutting stations. Planning in the finishing department was previously done manually and independently of the higher-level planning processes. This resulted in a large number of restacking operations in all storage areas.

   Siemens receives FAC for extended aluminum hot strip mill at Novelis
   
   In February, Siemens received the final acceptance certificate for the extension of an aluminum hot strip mill of Novelis Korea Limited in Ulsan. The first coil had been rolled in the Q3 of 2013 within 2 years from the date of contract effectiveness.
   
   The existing twin coiling hot-reversing mill line, built by Siemens in 1993 was expanded to include a light gauge shear and three stand hot finishing mill. The objective of the expansion project was to more than double production capacity, achieve lower end thicknesses and further improve overall product quality, to meet the increasing demand for high quality aluminum automotive sheet.
   
   The aluminum hot rolling mill, located in the Korean city of Ulsan is able to roll strip up to 2,200 millimeters wide with a thickness spectrum from 1.8 millimeters to 6 millimeters. Siemens supplied the complete integrated mechanical and electrical equipment for the new, three stand tandem rolling mill including a coiler and a coil handling system. The existing reversing stand now functions as a roughing mill. Lightweight cropping shears were also installed in the entry to the finishing line.
   
   The stands of the finishing line are equipped with hydraulic gauge control, positive and negative work roll bending and work roll cooling. The rolling process can be controlled precisely to achieve the required thickness, profile and temperature tolerances. A system for multiple-channel thickness and profile measurement is installed at the exit side of the finishing mill. Strip temperature is monitored with the aid of pyrometers in the finishing line's entry and exit.
   
   The complete automation and drive technology for the hot rolling mill is also from Siemens. The automation technology includes the basic automation plus the technological controls, level 2 systems, the operator control and monitoring facilities and the associated sensors. One essential element is the process automation with integrated profile and flatness control, which calculates the rolling mill's setpoints online on the basis of analytical mathematical models.
   
   The drive systems are entirely AC-based and comprise the main, roller table and auxiliary motors. Siemens synchronous non-salient machines are used for the main motors of stands and coiler. Sinamics S150 medium voltage converters and Sinamics S120 low-voltage converters are used for the drive system.
   
   All systems and components used are part of the integrated Siroll ALU solution platform for aluminum hot rolling mills. Their modular structure and high degree of standardization warrant a fast production start up and safe and maintenance friendly operation. Siemens was also responsible for monitoring installation, commissioning, and customer training.

   'Siemens wil transactie met Alstom sluiten'

   PARIJS (AFN/RTR) - Het Duitse industrieconcern Siemens heeft een voorstel aan Alstom gedaan om de helft van zijn treindivisie aan het Franse bedrijf over te doen plus contanten, in ruil voor de energiedivisie van Alstom. Dat meldde de Franse krant Le Figaro zondag.
   
   Le Figaro baseert zich op de inhoud van een brief die Siemens aan Alstom heeft gestuurd. Volgens de krant is Siemens bereid zijn onderdeel voor hogesnelheidstreinen en locomotieven aan Alstom over te doen en de treinen voor stedelijk gebruik te behouden. Le Figaro gaf geen details over het bedrag dat Siemens zou willen betalen aan Alstom.
   
   Siemens liet zondag weten dat het met Alstom wil praten over de mogelijkheden voor strategische samenwerking, maar gaf verder geen bijzonderheden.
   
   Afgesplitst
   
   Het Amerikaanse General Electric (GE) zou een bod willen doen op het deel van Alstom dat onderdelen voor energie- en kerncentrales en windturbines produceert. Dat zou worden afgesplitst van de divisie die de TGV-hogesnelheidstreinen maakt. De topman van GE zou zondag in Parijs een ontmoeting hebben met onder andere de Franse president François Hollande om over het mogelijke bod ter waarde van 13 miljard dollar (9,4 miljard euro) te praten.
   
   Naar verluidt is Siemens bereid het bod van GE op Alstom te evenaren of te overtreffen. Door het grootste deel van de transportactiviteiten bij Alstom onder te brengen, ontstaat een zeer sterke speler op dat gebied, terwijl Siemens een zeer sterke positie zou verkrijgen op energiegebied door de energie-activiteiten van Alstom over te nemen.
   
   De Franse overheid heeft laten weten de voorstellen van GE en Siemens te zullen bestuderen.

   'Siemens schrapt weer duizenden banen'

   MÜNCHEN (AFN/RTR) - Siemens schrapt in de komende tijd opnieuw duizenden banen, na de introductie van een nieuwe strategie. Dat schrijft maandag het Duitse blad Manager Magazin, dat zich baseert op hoger management van het technologiebedrijf.
   
   De nieuwe plannen worden op 7 mei ontvouwd, aldus de publicatie. Daarbij zouden de vier belangrijkste divisies van Siemens worden ontmanteld en een plattere organisatie worden gecreëerd. Dat zou leiden tot een verlies van 5000 tot 10.000 banen.
   
   Midden vorig jaar kondigde Siemens al aan wereldwijd 15.000 banen te schrappen. De reductie maakte toen onderdeel uit van een kostenbesparingsprogramma van ruim 6 miljard euro. Siemens wilde maandag niet reageren op de berichten over een nieuwe reorganisatie.
   
   Bij Siemens werken wereldwijd circa 360.000 mensen, ongeveer een derde daarvan in Duitsland. In Nederland heeft het concern zo'n 3000 medewerkers.

   Siemens to sell VAI unit to Mitsubishi Heavy
   
   Reuters reported that Germany's Siemens will sell a majority stake in its VAI Metals Technologies unit to Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
   
   Siemens will retain a 30% stake in the Linz headquartered company so as to secure its position as a supplier. Siemens would announce the sale on May 7, when the German group is due to give a strategy update and publish Q2 results.
   
   Siemens said that whether the division, which employs 9,000 people worldwide and provides equipment and facilities for the steel industry, was up for sale.
   
   Austrian investors had also expressed interest in a sale with Mr Michael Tojner head of industrial group Montana Tech Components, saying earlier this month he would be interested in the unit.

   PARIJS (AFN) - Het Duitse industriële concern Siemens komt dinsdag met een bod op zijn Franse branchegenoot Alstom. Dat meldde persbureau Reuters maandag op basis van een ingewijde.
   
   Siemens zou daarmee de concurrentie aangaan met het Amerikaanse General Electric, dat eerder al zijn interesse in de energietak van Alstom bekendmaakte. De Amerikaanse interesse zorgde de afgelopen dagen voor onrust in de Franse politiek, waar wordt gevreesd voor het verlies van werkgelegenheid en technologische kennis in Frankrijk.
   
   Eerder op maandag bleek al dat er politiek topoverleg plaatsvond tussen Frankrijk en Duitsland over een mogelijke krachtenbundeling van Siemens en Alstom. Het Duitse bedrijf zou daarbij de energietak van Alstom overnemen in ruil voor zijn eigen treinendivisie. In dat segment is Alstom ook actief.
   
   Bestuderen
   
   De Franse regering zou Alstom hebben gevraagd ruim de tijd te nemen voor het bestuderen van de biedingen van beide bedrijven. Het bedrijf zou daarbij af moeten zien van de deadline van 30 april die het eerder aan zichzelf oplegde.
   
   Siemens zou zijn bod ook voorleggen aan de Franse president François Hollande. Die zou maandag aan beide bedrijven hebben laten weten dat banen, de vestiging van het hoofdkwartier en de onafhankelijkheid van buitenlandse energieleveranciers belangrijke overwegingen zijn voor de Franse overheid. Een betrokkene zei tegen persbureau Bloomberg dat er binnen de regering nog geen voorkeur is voor Siemens of GE.

   PARIJS (AFN/RTR/DPA) - Siemens staat op het punt een bod te doen op het Franse concern Alstom. Dat heeft de Franse minister van Economie, Arnaud Montebourg, dinsdag gezegd in het parlement, zo berichtten verscheidene media.
   
   “Een bod van Siemens wordt momenteel overhandigd aan het bestuur van Alstom”, zei Montebourg zonder details van de bieding te noemen. Siemens zou met zijn bod de concurrentie aangaan met het Amerikaanse General Electric (GE), dat al eerder zijn interesse in de energietak van het Franse bedrijf bekend had gemaakt. De belangstelling van GE leidde tot ophef binnen de Franse regering, die vreest voor verlies van werkgelegenheid en kennis in Frankrijk.
   
   Maandag sprak de Franse president François Hollande met zowel de topman van GE als met het bestuur van Siemens. Ook bleek toen dat er politiek topoverleg plaatsvond tussen Frankrijk en Duitsland over een krachtenbundeling van Siemens en Alstom.

   AMSTERDAM (Dow Jones)--Feyenoord Founders Consortium (FFC), een consorium bestaande uit bouwmaatschappij Koninklijke BAM Groep nv (BAMNB.AE), electroconcern Siemens AG (SIE.XE) en gebiedsonwikkelaar AM, heeft een positief advies gekregen voor de uitwerking van een plan voor de verbouwing en uitbreiding van het huidige Feijenoord-stadion De Kuip in Rotterdam.
   
   Het plan van het consortium voorziet erin dat Rotterdam na een ingrijpende vernieuwing en uitbreiding het grootste stadion van Nederland krijgt met een capaciteit voor ruim 70.000 bezoekers.
   
   FFC zal de komende zes maanden als exclusieve partij in nauwe samenwerking met belanghebbende partijen het ontwerp, de financiering en de exploitatie verder uitwerken. Ook treedt het consortium in overleg met de gemeente over het vergunningentraject en de eisen ten aanzien van de infrastructuur en parkeervoorzieningen rond het stadion.
   
   Daarna zal FFC de formele opdracht voor de uitvoering van het project krijgen, is de verwachting, aldus woorvoerder Michel Westbeek van de projectorganisatie van het consortium.
   
   Tijdens de drie jaar durende verbouwing kan het stadion voor sporten, concerten en andere evenementen met een minimum capaciteit van 50.000 bezoekers in gebruik blijven, licht de woordvoerder verder toe.
   
   FFC doet in het plan voor De Nieuwe Kuip ook voorstellen voor nieuwe sport-, vrijetijds- en verblijfsfuncties in de directe omgeving van het stadion. Hiermee, en met het grotere bezoeksaantal dat in het stadion kan plaatsnemen, moeten ook extra inkomsten worden gegenereerd.
   
   Het consortium is verantwoordelijk geweest voor de herontwikkeling en realisatie van De Kuip in de jaren '90, en de consortiumleden zijn gezamenlijk ook betrokken geweest bij de ontwikkeling en bouw van meer dan tweehonderd stadions, waaronder de Allianz Arena in Munchen en Soccer City in Johannesburg.

    MÜNCHEN (AFN/BLOOMBERG) - Het Duitse technologieconcern Siemens gaat zijn divisie die systemen maakt voor onder meer het verwerken van pakketjes door logistieke dienstverleners en het afhandelen van bagage op luchthavens verkopen. Dat meldden ingewijden.
    
    Het onderdeel zal worden verkocht aan een groep onder leiding van de Amerikaanse investeerder Wilbur Ross, aldus de bronnen. Naar verluidt zal de transactie nog deze week worden aangekondigd. Siemens zou wel een minderheidsbelang in het onderdeel willen behouden. De divisie telt ongeveer 3500 werknemers en is goed voor een omzet van circa 900 miljoen euro.
    
    De verkoop maakt onderdeel uit van de plannen van Siemens om minder winstgevende activiteiten te verkopen. Siemens had eind 2012 al gezegd een koper voor de divisie te zoeken. Het bedrijf komt op woensdag met een nieuwe strategie naar buiten.

    Siemens boekt meer winst, herziet strategie
    
    BERLIJN (Dow Jones)--Siemens ag (SIE.XE) heeft in zijn fiscale tweede kwartaal een hogere winst geboekt dan een jaar eerder dankzij sterke prestaties bij diverse segmenten, maar zag de orderinstroom dalen. Ook kondigde het Duitse conglomeraat een grote herziening van de strategie aan.
    
    Siemens boekte een 11% hogere winst van EUR1,12 miljard, profiterend van kostenbesparingen en hogere winsten bij onder meer de infrastructuur- en zorgdivisies.
    
    De orderinstroom daalde echter met 13% tot EUR18,43 miljard ten opzichte van een jaar terug, toen het bedrijf grote opdrachten binnensleepte voor de bouw van windturbines en treinen. De omzet nam met 1,9% af tot EUR17,45 miljard, vooral vanwege ongunstige wisselkoerseffecten.
    
    "Het [fiscale] tweede kwartaal laat zien dat we nog steeds veel te doen hebben wat betreft het verbeteren van de operationele prestaties", zegt chief executive Joe Kaeser.
    
    Kort voor de publicatie van de kwartaalcijfers kondigde het Duitse industriele conglomeraat tevens diverse ingrijpende strategische wijzigingen aan. Zo neemt het bedrijf het grootste deel van Rolls-Royce Holding plc's energiedivisie over voor $1,32 miljard. Deze tak bouwt windturbines die kleiner zijn dan die van Siemens en had vorig jaar een omzet van GBP871 miljoen.
    
    Met deze acquisitie zet het concern nog zwaarder in op de energieactiviteiten, die vorig jaar al goed waren voor 38% van de totale omzet van het bedrijf. Ook is Siemens bezig met een bod van EUR11 miljard op de energiedivisies van het Franse Alstom.
    
    Andere bedrijfsonderdelen, zoals de zorgdivisie, worden naar de achtergrond geschoven of afgesplitst. De divisie die gehoortoestellen maakt, zal naar de beurs worden gebracht en de andere healthcare-activiteiten, die zich zullen richten op geautomatiseerde en digitale producten, zullen apart van de rest van Siemens worden gerund
    
    De aangekondigde wijzigingen moeten van Siemens een gestroomlijnder bedrijf maken. Vanaf oktober zal het concern bestaan uit negen bedrijfsonderdelen, welke zich zullen bezighouden met onder meer de productie van treinstellen, energieturbines, duurzame energie, bouwtechnologie en financiele diensten.

    Siemens receives wind turbine and service order for largest wind farm in Canada
    
    Siemens Energy announced a major wind turbine and service order in Canada at the AWEA WINDPOWER tradeshow in Las Vegas. Along with the South Kent Wind Farm in Chatham-Kent, Ontario, the 270 MW K2 Wind Ontario Project will be among the largest wind power plants in Canada. It is located in Goderich in southwestern Ontario and will feature 140 units of the Siemens SWT-2.3-101 wind turbines. The project owners are Samsung Renewable Energy Inc, Capital Power LP and Pattern Energy Group LP. The transaction includes a long term service and maintenance agreement, ensuring the reliability, availability and performance of the turbines.
    
    K2 Wind will generate clean power for 100,000 Ontario homes with commercial operation expected in mid-2015. The blades for the project will be manufactured at the Siemens blade facility in Tillsonburg, Ontario. Towers for the project will also be produced locally in Canada. The nacelles will be assembled at Siemens’ US factory in Hutchinson, Kansas.
    
    Mr Mark Albenze, CEO of Siemens Energy's Wind Power Onshore Americas business, said that “Canada is one of the most important wind markets in the Americas. We are proud to once again collaborate with the leading players in this market to bring renewable, clean and reliable energy to the homes and businesses of Canadian residents.”

    Siemens and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries want to cooperate in the field of metallurgical industry and are forming a globally operating complete provider for plants, products and services for the iron, steel and aluminum industry. Responding to the challenging market environment and high price pressure, two strong partners are bundling their individual strengths and establishing a powerful and globally well positioned JV. An agreement to this effect has just been signed.
    
    According to the agreement, MHI will hold a 51% and Siemens a 49% stake in the JV. Subject to approval of the relevant authorities, the JV will start operations in January 2015.
    
    Both partners are contributing their metallurgical industry activities to the JV. The new joint venture will integrate Mitsubishi Hitachi Metals Machinery, Inc an MHI consolidated group company with equity participation by Hitachi, Limited and IHI Corporation. Siemens and MHI ideally complement one another with regard to their product portfolios, production know how and geographical spread.
    
    The new JV with approximately 9,000 employees will focus fully on business with iron, steel and aluminum-producing industry. The company's structures are lean and tailored to global market requirements and the international competitive environment. The bundling of competencies will result in a powerful joint venture that is better able to compensate for market fluctuations.
    
    The company's headquarters will be located in the United Kingdom. The joint venture includes supply agreements for Siemens' Industry Automation and Drive Technologies Divisions. Regionally, the steel market has strongly shifted to Asia. Over 50% of the world's steel production now takes place in China, with growing competition also through local technology providers. Drawing on the centers of competence of Siemens Metals Technologies in Central Europe and those of MHI in Asia, the new joint venture has a very solid regional set up.
    
    The portfolios of the two partners ideally complement one another. While the technology strengths of Siemens Metals Technologies lie in particular in iron and steel production, casting, automation, environmental technologies and lifecycle services, MHI's technology competence is primarily focused on hot and cold rolling, processing as well as production expertise. By combining both portfolios, the joint venture can offer its customers the entire value chain in iron, steel and aluminum production, from technologies for processing raw materials to surface finishing at the end of the production process, as well as the related lifecycle service competencies.
    
    The Metals Technologies Business Unit (headquartered in Linz, Austria), part of the Siemens Industry Sector, is a worldwide leading lifecycle partner for the metals industry. The Business Unit offers a comprehensive technology, modernization, product and service portfolio and integrated automation and environmental solutions for complete plant lifecycles.
    
    Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Limited, headquartered in Tokyo, Japan is one of the world's leading heavy machinery manufacturers with consolidated sales of JPY 2,817.8 billion in fiscal 2012, the year ended March 31st 2013.     Siemens announces earnings result for Q2 FY 2014
    
    1. Q2 revenue was 2% lower YoY. On an organic basis, excluding currency translation and portfolio effects, revenue rose 1%.
    
    2. Orders declined 13% compared to the prior year period which included a substantially higher volume from large orders. On an organic basis, orders were 10% lower YoY. The book to bill ratio was 1.06 for the quarter and Siemens' order backlog reached a new high at EUR 103 billion.
    
    3. Total Sectors profit rose 16%, to EUR 1.566 billion, highlighted by a strong profit increase in Infrastructure & Cities and income from continuing operations climbed 19%.
    
    4. Net income for the Q2 rose 12% YoY to EUR 1.153 billion and basic earnings per share increased to EUR 1.33.
    
    5. Free cash flow from continuing operations was EUR 1.390 billion up slightly from EUR 1.360 billion in the Q2 a year earlier.
    
    Mr Joe Kaeser president and CEO of Siemens AG said that "The Q2 showed that we still have a lot to do to improve our operating performance. Nevertheless we are on course to reach our targets for the fiscal year."

    Rolls-Royce to sell energy gas turbine and compressor business to Siemens
    
    Rolls Royce announced it has signed an agreement to sell its energy gas turbine and compressor business to Siemens for a GBP 785 million cash consideration. The business being sold supplies aero-derivative gas turbines, compressor systems and related services to customers in the oil and gas and power generation sectors.
    
    On completion of the transaction, Rolls-Royce will receive a further GBP 200 million for a 25 year licensing agreement, granting Siemens access to relevant Rolls-Royce aero-derivative technology for use in the 4 to 85 MW power output gas turbine range.
    
    Rolls-Royce's Energy gas turbine and compressor business has around 2,400 employees. In 2013, it was reported within the results of the Energy business where it contributed GBP 871 million of revenue and GBP 72 million of underlying profit. Siemens' Energy sector has around 83,500 employees and in 2013 contributed revenue of EUR 26.6 billion and underlying profit of EUR 1.9 billion.
    
    The transaction excludes certain smaller power generation sector assets. On completion of the transaction, Rolls-Royce's shareholding in the Rolls Wood Group JV, that provides maintenance, repair and overhaul services, will be transferred to Siemens.
    
    The transaction has been approved by the boards of directors of Rolls-Royce and Siemens and is expected to complete before the end of December 2014, subject to closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.
    
    Mr John Rishton, CEO of Rolls-Royce, said that ''This agreement will give the Energy business greater opportunities as part of a much larger energy company and allows Rolls-Royce to concentrate on the areas of business where we can add most value.''

    MÜNCHEN (AFN/BLOOMBERG) - Het Duitse technologieconcern Siemens is maandag begonnen met een aandeleninkoopprogramma ter waarde van 4 miljard euro. Het inkoopprogramma werd in november aangekondigd.
    
    Siemens zal maximaal 47,8 miljoen eigen aandelen gaan inkopen in de periode die eind oktober volgend jaar eindigt. Met het inkoopprogramma wil Siemens meer geld uitkeren aan de eigen aandeelhouders, na een daling van het aandeel met 2,3 procent sinds begin dit jaar. Maandag stond Siemens in Frankfurt 0,7 procent hoger.
    
    Vorige week kondigde Siemens een omvangrijke reorganisatie aan om de winstgevendheid te vergroten en het bedrijf meer te stroomlijnen.

    'Siemens komt snel met tegenbod op Alstom'

    PARIJS (AFN/RTR) - Siemens komt mogelijk komende week al met een bod op de energietak van het Franse Alstom. Dat melden bronnen rond het Duitse concern. Het bod zou een tegenwicht moeten vormen tegen het bod van het Amerikaanse General Electric (GE), dat al in gesprek is met het bestuur van het Franse bedrijf.
    
    GE bracht onlangs een bod uit dat de energie-activiteiten van Alstom op circa 12,4 miljard euro waardeert. Alstom ging met GE in gesprek, maar besloot, onder druk van de Franse regering, zijn boeken ook te openen voor Siemens, zodat dat bedrijf met een tegenbod zou kunnen komen. De Franse regering maakt zich ernstige zorgen over de werkgelegenheid en het weglekken van kennis als de overname door de Amerikanen doorgang vindt.
    
    Siemens zou volgens ingewijden de Franse overheid paaien met een constructie waarbij de staat een groter belang neemt in Alstom dan de 0,9 procent die hij nu bezit. Daarnaast stelt het Duitse concern voor om zijn eigen transportdivisie over te dragen aan Alstom.
    
    Bronnen rond Alstom betwijfelen of het bod van Siemens uiteindelijk zodanig zal zijn, dat het Franse concern daar de voorkeur aan zal geven boven het voorstel van GE, dat voor een groter deel uit cash bestaat. Maar een sterk bod van Siemens zou de Franse overheid wel meer mogelijkheden geven om GE verder onder druk te zetten, bijvoorbeeld wat betreft garanties voor de werkgelegenheid na een overname. De regering van president François Hollande nam afgelopen week een wet aan die het voor buitenlandse bedrijven moeilijker maakt om overnames te doen in 'strategische' bedrijfssectoren.

    MÜNCHEN (AFN) - Het Duitse technologieconcern Siemens gaat 10.000 banen schrappen als onderdeel van zijn omvangrijke reorganisatie. Dat meldde het Duitse zakenblad Wirtschaftswoche vrijdag op basis van ingewijden.
    De vestiging van Siemens in het Duitse Erlangen wordt naar verwachting het hardst getroffen. Het is de op één na grootste vestiging van het bedrijf. In Erlangen worden producten gemaakt voor de industrie- en energie-activiteiten en het medische onderdeel van Siemens. Ook bij het hoofdkantoor in München gaan naar verluidt banen verloren. Er zouden al onderhandelingen zijn begonnen met de vakbonden.
    
    Vorig jaar kondigde Siemens al aan wereldwijd 15.000 banen te schrappen om kosten te besparen. Siemens maakte eerder deze maand een grootscheepse reorganisatie bekend om een gestroomlijnder en efficiënter bedrijf te worden.

    Siemens receives order to supply copper rod system for Guangqing Copper in China
    
    Siemens Metals Technologies has received an order from the Southwire Company, Carrollton, Georgia, USA, to supply a copper rod system for industrial materials company Guangqing Copper Company, Limited of Liao Cheng, China. The new mill is designed to produce 230,000 metric tons of copper rod per year and will be located in Lioacheng City, Shandong Province with commissioning expected in late 2015.

    Siemens is responsible for the engineering, manufacturing and commissioning of the rolling mill and coiler equipment for a Southwire SCR 4500 rolling mill to produce ETP copper. The contract scope includes 11 independently driven roll stands, which will run 35 tonnes per hour, annually producing 230,000 tonnes of rods that are 8 mm, 9.5 mm, 12.7 mm, 16 mm and 18 mm in diameter from 5430 mm cast bar.
    
    Coil weights will range from two to four tons. The contract also includes a 20inch rotary shear and table, intermediate shear and downlooper, delivery and pickling system, rollerized turndown, pinch roll, orbital/laid coiler and a coil handling system.
    
    Southwire has worked together Siemens for more than 40 years. During that time, the company built more than 80 non-ferrous mills for Southwire customers, in addition to completing nearly 30 upgrades.

    Siemens to build copper rod mill in Worcester
    
    German conglomerate Siemens Metals Technologies has inked a deal that will involve the engineering and manufacture of copper rod mills in Worcester.
    
    Siemens said that the rolling mill and coiler equipment will be sold to Georgia-based Southwire Company and used beginning in late 2015 in a Chinese facility owned by a copper manufacturer. The down payment on the order was received in late April.
    
    Work is already underway in Siemens' Prescott Street facility on 11 roll stands, a 20 inch rotary shear and table and a delivery and pickling system. This will enable the Chinese firm Guangquing Copper Company to produce 230,000 metric tons of copper rod per year in its new facility.
