www.socpedia.com/uber-introduces-mapp...In its announcement today Uber said that it would be making use of all new 3D maps soon. The company has been pouring down millions of dollars on the mapping technology with the intention of bringing more advanced navigation for its self-driving cars. Uber said that it would be incorporating cameras to get mapping data on its vehicles which are already in operation. These advanced versions of maps will assist the company in getting more accurate data of traffic and more exact location tracking for picking up the passengers. The same technology will be incorporated in the autonomous cars as well.
Manik Gupta, the chief of the product, stated in a blog entry that for more than past ten years the mapping technology had slackened the industry and these revamped maps will assist the company to have a significant boost for Autonomous Technology. Uber has once been criticized that it keeps track of the customers even when they are not traveling and some users stated that the company uses location tracker, but Uber has stated today that it never stores data of pickup and drop off. The same is erased soon after from the servers.
Currently, Uber entirely depends upon Google Maps. But the recent announcement has made it clear that the company has been working on creating its own and more advanced 3D maps that can work on their own. In the year 2015 Uber suggested that the company planned to invest $500 million on its map. Uber currently has mapping car in the countries is like America, Canada, Mexico, UK, and Australia. The more advanced version of maps will help the company to be self-dependent and more efficient and its working.
