Inflation worries Wall Street
U.S. stocks set for lower open as investors await consumer price report.
March 16 2007: 5:34 AM EDT
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Concern about the U.S. economy could weigh on stocks ahead of Friday's open, with a key inflation report expected to provide guidance before the bell rings on Wall Street.
At 5:30 a.m. ET, Nasdaq and S&P futures were lower.
Due an hour before the open is the government's report on consumer prices in February. Economists surveyed by Briefing.com expect a 0.3 percent increase, compared with a 0.2 percent rise in January; excluding food and energy costs, prices are seen rising 0.2 percent.
Oil prices were little changed. U.S. light crude eased 2 cents to $57.53 a barrel in electronic trading.
Treasury prices were lower. The yield on the 10-year note rose to 4.54 percent from 4.53 percent late Thursday.
Among stocks in the news early Friday: Accredited Home Lenders (Charts) and Tribune (Charts).
