    European advisory backs Gilead's remdesivir for COVID-19

    The European Medicines Agency's advisory group CHMP has adopted a positive opinion backing approval of Gilead Sciences' (NASDAQ:GILD) remdesivir for patients at least 12 years old with COVID-19 pneumonia on supplemental oxygen.

    A final decision from the European Commission usually takes ~60 days but is likely to come much sooner in this case.

    Shares up a fraction premarket.

    Dat denk ik ook. Remdesivir zie ik als een extraatje, de echte belangrijke data worden filgotinib zonder BB en Kite.
    Nu ook filgotinib wordt ingezet bij HIV en hun innovatieve CEO , brede pipeline is Gilead onder gewaardeerd.

    'VS heeft remdesivir-voorraad opgekocht'

    De Britse krant The Guardian schrijft dat de Verenigde Staten de beschikbare voorraad van virusremmer remdesivir vrijwel heeft opgekocht. De VS zou 500.000 doses hebben aangeschaft, dat is de volledige productie voor juli en 90 procent van die voor augustus en september.

    Remdesivir, oorspronkelijk een medicijn tegen ebola, is de eerste virusremmer waarvan bewezen is dat die werkt tegen covid-19. "De VS heeft toegang tot het grootste deel van de voorraad, dus er is niets meer voor Europa", zegt een expert van de universiteit van Liverpool tegen de krant. Deskundigen vrezen dat hetzelfde gebeurt als er een vaccin beschikbaar komt.

    Remdesivir is vorige week door de Europese medicijnautoriteiten goedgekeurd voor gebruik bij coronapatiënten. Het gaat specifiek om mensen die met een longontsteking in het ziekenhuis liggen en extra zuurstof nodig hebben. Zij herstellen na behandeling met de virusremmer gemiddeld vier dagen eerder, meldt de Nederlandse medicijnautoriteit CBG.

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) De Europese Commissie heeft voorwaardelijke goedkeuring verleend aan het op de markt brengen van het coronamedicijn remdesivir van Gilead Sciences. Dit meldde Gilead vrijdag.

    Remdesivir mag beschikbaar worden gesteld aan volwassenen en jonge mensen ouder dan 12 jaar en met een gewicht van minstens 40 kilo.

    De relatief vlotte instemming houdt verband met het grote belang voor de volksgezondheid.

    Als een verrassing kwam het besluit niet. In juni werd remdesivir al aanbevolen door het Europees Geneesmiddelenbureau EMA. Meestal wordt deze aanbeveling vervolgens overgenomen door de Europese Commissie.

    Eerder werd remdesivir al in de Verenigde Staten goedgekeurd als noodbehandeling tegen het coronavirus.

    Eind juni verwachtte Gilead op basis van de huidige behandelingspatronen dat de overgrote meerderheid van de patiënten een behandelingskuur van 5 dagen nodig heeft, ofwel 6 injectieflacons, wat neerkomt op 2.340 dollar per behandeling per patiënt.

    The European Commission has conditionally approved Gilead Sciences' (NASDAQ:GILD) Veklury (remdesivir) for the treatment of patients at least 12 years old with COVID-19 pneumonia requiring supplemental oxygen.

    The nod is initially valid for one year but can be extended or converted into unconditional approval upon the submission and assessment of additional confirmatory data.

    Remdesivir wordt positief benoemd nu bij NPO1 bij feiten en fabels ,het coronavirus.
    Wordt uitgebreid besproken ook samen dexametason
    Stukje zit ongeveer 15 min in het programma

    Staat nu voorbeurs op een plus van 3,25% om 10.15 uur. Zegt nog nog niets, tegen 15.30 uur zal het wel weer op 0% zijn. Maar positief blijven vind ik, en er is een reden!

    Remdesivir OK'd in India for COVID-19

    Gilead Sciences (NASDAQ:GILD) licensee Mylan N.V. (NASDAQ:MYL) announces that the Drug Controller General of India has approved its remdesivir 100 mg/vial for restricted emergency use for severely ill hospitalized pediatric and adult COVID-19 patients.

    Mylan will launch its version in India under the brand name Desrem at a price of INR 4,800 ($62.40) per vial.

    GILD is up 3% premarket and MYL is up 9%, both on light volume.

    Gilead launches early-stage study of inhaled remdesivir

    Gilead Sciences (GILD -1.1%) has initiated a U.S. Phase 1a clinical trial evaluating an inhalable formulation of antiviral remdesivir in 60 healthy volunteers between the ages of 18 and 45.

    The company says an inhalable version may enable more targeted and accessible administration in non-hospitalized COVID-19 patients and lower systemic exposure to the drug.

    The intravenous formulation remains the only medicine approved in the U.S. for emergency use in hospitalized patients, receiving the FDA nod on May 1.

    Australia's Therapeutic Good Administration has granted provisional approval to Gilead Sciences' (NASDAQ:GILD) Veklury (remdesivir) for the treatment of hospitalized adolescent and adult patients with COVID-19.

    Remdesivir was previously approved in the U.S., Europe, India and Japan.

    The company out-licensed non-exclusive rights to the antiviral to certain generic drugmakers aimed at distribution in 127 low- and middle-income countries.

    Gilead's remdesivir cut mortality risk 62% in COVID-19 study

    Gilead Sciences (NASDAQ:GILD) reports additional data on remdesivir that includes a comparative analysis of the Phase 3 SIMPLE-Severe study and a real-world retrospective cohort of severely ill COVID-19 patients. The results are being presented virtually at the 23rd International AIDS Conference.

    Treatment with remdesivir was associated with a 62% reduction in mortality compared to standard-of-care (SOC) treatment. 74.4% of treated patients recovered by day 14 versus 59.0% of those receiving SOC. Remdesivir demonstrated its superiority to SOC in terms of mortality rate, 7.6% at day 14 versus 12.5% in patients not receiving the antiviral.

    The study assessed five-day and 10-day dosing regimens of remdesivir administered intravenously.

    Patients who received hydroxychloroquine in addition to remdesivir experienced lower recovery rates (57% vs. 69%) compared to those who received remdesivir without the malaria drug. Concomitant use of hydroxychloroquine was not associated with a higher mortality rate in the 14 days analysis window.

    Results from its remdesivir compassionate use program showed that 83% of pediatric patients and 92% of pregnant and postpartum women with a broad spectrum of COVID-19 severity recovered by day 28.

    Shares up 2% premarket on modest volume.

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) Onderzoek naar het coronamedicijn remdesivir van farmceut Gilead suggereert een klinisch herstel en een afname van het sterfterisico met 62 procent. Dit bleek vrijdag uit een presentatie van de Fase 3 onderzoeksresultaten door Gilead tijdens een corona-conferentie.

    Ongeveer driekwart van de met remdesivir behandelde patiënten herstelde in de tweede week van het onderzoek, vergeleken met 59 procent van de patiënten die standaardzorg ontvingen, aldus de onderzoeksresultaten.

    Het sterftecijfers van met remdesivir behandelde patiënten was op dag 14 van het onderzoek 7,6 procent, terwijl het percentage sterfgevallen van patiënten die niet met het medicijn werden behandeld 12,5 procent bedroeg.

    De Fase 3-studie bestond uit 312 patiënten en een controlegroep van 818 patiënten die in dezelfde periode standaardzorg ontvingen.

    Stocks start flat; remdesivir numbers show promise

    The market opens little changed, but futures erased losses ahead of the bell following encouraging COVID treatment data.

    The S&P is up 0.1%, the Dow is rising 0.1% and the Nasdaq is flat.

    Gilead, up 1.8%, says treatment with remdesivir was associated with a 62% reduction in mortality compared to standard-of-care treatment.

    Leadership and laggards swapped positions today, with Energy up 0.9% and Tech off 0.7%.

    Wholesale inflation numbers showed a decline in headline and core producers prices. That's good for consumers who could see price reductions on the retail side at a time when supplemental benefits are running out, but not so good for companies trying to get pricing power.

    Rates are off earlier lows. The 10-year Treasury yield is flat at 0.6%.

    As the S&P has struggled to regain its upward momentum of late, Steve Henrich of NorthmanTrader.com noticed that the broader market peaked the same week as the Fed's balance sheet (chart here).
