   Chinese in pole to build world’s largest FPSO
   
   Shanghai: A Chinese yard is deemed to be in pole position for a newbuild contract to construct the world’s largest FPSO for Royal Dutch Shell. The oil major is tendering for an FPSO to be moored off Nigeria. Processing capacity of the FPSO will be around 225,000 barrels a day with capable of storing 2.50m barrels.
   
   China’s joint-stock company Offshore Oil Engineering(COOEC)-Tianjin will fight it out with Korea’s big three yards for the contract, with COOEC viewed as the favourite to win. Malaysia’s Bumi Armada may also submit a bid. The contract is expected to be handed out later this year. [14/05/14]

   Shell stakes $12b for world’s biggest FPSO
   
   THE Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) has commenced arrangements to build a new world-class Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, with indications that it would take the Final Investment Decision (FDI) before the end of this year.
   The FPSO, expected to emerge the world biggest, would aid the development of the Shell-operated Bonga South West-Aparo discovery.
   
   The company’s General Manager for deepwater Nigeria, Jerry Jackson who said this in the official journal of the 2014 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, Texas, noted that Shell has begun contract awards’ process for construction of the FPSO for its $12 billion Bonga South West Aparo development.
   
   Noting that the tender process for the single-point moored facility is current out to tenders in Nigeria, he said the major bidders are Samsung and Hyundai. Concept for selection for the project spans through Oil Mining Lease (OML118), 132 and 140.
   
   Bonga also lies 120km southwest of the Niger Delta in a water depth of over 1,000m.
   
   Shell had previously issued a tender in August last year to source line pipe for Bonga SW-Aparo, a field , which lies in a water dept of 1,400m (4,592 ft) some 135 kilometre (84 miles) offshore Nigeria.

   Misschien snap ik het niet goed, maar wat is de rol van de Modecs en SBM's hierbij, als Shell zelf de scheepswerf gaat uitkiezen?? Je mag SBM wel een goede kans toedichten vanwege hun "overeenkomst" met Shell. Overigens was dat een "intentieverklaring" die samenwerking bij kleine en middelgrote FPSO's betrof, en dat is hier nadrukkelijk niet het geval

   prachtig uitzoekwerk van je. Dank ! Het lijkt er nu inderdaad op dat de Modec's en SBM's van deze wereld niet zullen meebieden op de klus van 12 miljard van Shell.
   
   Jouw uitzoekwerk laat ons zien dat er meer mega-spelers de (toekomstige) markt gaan bepalen.

   PETALING JAYA: TH Heavy Engineering Bhd (THHE) has won a contract for the provision of engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) and leasing of its floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, a deal that could be worth up to RM2.67bil.
   
   Confirming a StarBiz report, the company told Bursa Malaysia yesterday that it had received a letter of award (LoA) from JX Nippon Oil and Gas Exploration (M) Ltd.
   
   The LoA entails the provision of EPCIC and subsequent leasing of its FPSO Deep Producer 1 until Nov 17, 2023 for the Layang Development Project at Block SK10, offshore Sarawak.
   
   The award also provides for the option to extend the lease of the FPSO facilities for one year up to a maximum 10 years. It said the award was estimated to be worth about RM1.2bil for the primary period, with additional potential of up to about RM1.47bil should the full extension options be exercised.

   Het was al (heel) jammer dat SBM Offshore de dubbele Total-order mis liep voor het Kaombo-veld voor Angola. Vandaag werd bekend dat uitgerekend de Nederlandse concurrent Bluewater (forumdraadje FPSO's - de bouwers) de Mooring Turrets mag leveren.

    Ter waarde van US $ 600 miljoen.
    
    Uitgerekend in de regio's waar SBM Offshore normaliter 70% van de jaaromzet haalt, betekent einde van FPSO leases nu geen nieuwe tenders.

    De Oil and Gas Journal (OGJ) bevestigt vandaag de orders voor Sembcorp Marine --> ombouwen van 2 tankerschepen tot FPSO voor het offshore Kaombo olieveld voor de kust van Angola.

    SBM Offshore wil al heel lang in het segment LNG carriers stappen,
    maar het is MITSUI dat fors investeert in haar divisie LNG carriers.
    Tussen nu (juli 2014) en maart 2020 wil MITSUI haar LNG vloot verdubbelen van 60 carriers naar 120 carriers.

    Brazil eyeing Japan's help in oil project
    
    Brazil plans to use Japanese technology in building a floating structure and ships for its huge offshore oil development project, media reports said Sunday.
    
    Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff will announce the use of Japanese technology in building a so-called "logistics hub" for the project when they meet in Brazil on August 1, according to a draft of their joint statement, Kyodo news agency said.
    
    The massive floating structure under consideration would be about 300 metres (984 feet) long and 100 metres wide, Kyodo said, citing government sources.
    
    Abe is scheduled to leave on a tour of Central and South America on Friday.
    
    Abe and Rousseff will also announce that Brazil will launch a programme this year to upgrade its shipbuilding industry by training experts with Japanese help, according to the draft.
    
    The business daily Nikkei said the leaders are expected to reach agreement during their talks on cooperation in the project to develop the field off Brazil.
    
    Petrobras, Brazil's government-affiliated oil company, aims to start production by 2020 at the field which is estimated to hold more than 50 billion barrels worth of oil reserves, Nikkei said.
    
    Under current plans, the paper said, Petrobras will eventually need to procure 50 floating oil platforms, which cost roughly 100 billion yen ($987 million) each.
    
    It will also need 50 deep-sea drilling vessels costing 60 billion yen ($592 million) apiece, as well as ships to carry vast amounts of personnel, equipment and supplies.
    
    All told, the project is expected to cost around 20 trillion yen ($197 billion), Nikkei said.
    
    Major Japanese shipbuilders, such as IHI and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, are proposing to build large floating platforms, Nikkei said.

    H2 Offshore levert de Hybrid Risers voor het TOTAL offshore Kaombo project (Angola). Je zou je gaan afvragen waarom letterlijk alle Kaombo orders voorbij gaan zonder enige rol voor SBM Offshore.

    Zeker zitten de concurrenten en private Equity partijen en andere vrinden niet te slapen.
    
    Ik verwacht dat er op zéér korte termijn een grote actie van partijen, waarbij een knock-out-bid zeker tot de mogelijkheden gaat behoren.
