   General Motor China sales in Jul up by 15pct YoY
   
   China Knowledge reported that US auto giant General Motors Corp and its China joint ventures sold a total of 199,503 vehicles in July this year, reflecting a YoY increase of 15.1% principally boosted by strong sales of SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co.
   
   Shanghai GM a joint venture established with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp saw its auto sales rose 5.7% YoY to 97,064 units last month. SAIC-GM-Wuling, a JV among SAIC, GM and Liuzhou Wuling Motors Co, sold a total of 98,694 vehicles in July surged 26.6% from a year earlier.
   
   FAW-GM, the joint venture between GM and FAW Group, saw its auto sales grew 3.1% YoY to 3,379 units last month.
   
   Sales of Buick vehicles increased 4.8% YoY to 52,691 units last month, and sales of Chevrolet and Cadillac vehicles amounted to 44,864 units and 2,017 units respectively.

   Mercedes-Benz China sales in Jan to Jul up by 10pct YoY
   
   China Knowledge reported that Daimler AG's luxury car unit Mercedes-Benz announced that it sold a total of 119,980 vehicles in China in the first seven months of this year reflecting a YoY increase of 10%.
   
   In July 2012, the automaker sold 14,760 vehicles in China, including the models of Mercedes-Benz, Smart and Maybach up by 2% YoY. Last month, the sales of domestically made C-Class cars a core model of Mercedes-Benz, soared 134% YoY making the total sales in the first seven months jump 26% from the same period of last year.
   
   The company saw its sales of Smart vehicles surge 30% YoY to 1,080 units in July and its total reach 9,740 units in the first seven months, reflecting a strong growth of 55% YoY.

   Audi China sales in July up by 19pct YoY
   
   China Knowledge reported that Audi AG a German subsidiary of Volkswagen AG auto sales in China reach 32,877 units last month reflecting a YoY increase of 18.4%.
   
   In Jul 2011, the German automaker saw its China sales hit 27,767 units.
   
   Last month, the sales of domestic Audi Q5 model surged 80% from a year earlier and led its sales to 50,170 units in the first seven month of this year.
   
   From January to July, the company sold a total of 226,748 vehicles in China, 34.6% or 58,282 units more than it realized in the same period of last year.

   MILAAN (AFN) - De Italiaanse autofabrikant Fiat kondigde woensdag aan de productie in Pomigliano in de herfst 2 weken stil te leggen. Dat is nodig vanwege een aanhoudend zwakke vraag na 5 jaar van dalende autoverkopen in Europa.
   
   Werknemers in Pomigliano, waar de Fiat Panda wordt gemaakt, krijgen tijdelijk ontslag voor de week van 24 tot en met 28 september en van 1 tot 5 oktober. Bestuursvoorzitter Sergio Marchionne zal op 30 oktober de investeringsplannen van Fiat toelichten. Vakbonden vrezen dat het bedrijf investeringen gaat uitstellen of zelfs overgaat tot het sluiten van de fabriek.
   
   Fiats Amerikaanse merk Chrysler is winstgevend maar in Europa lijdt het bedrijf, net als vele concurrenten, verlies.

   Mercedes-Benz to increase investment in India
   
   Luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz India plans to increase its investment to INR 850 crore by 2014. The German car maker through its dealer partners already carries an investment of over INR 480 crores spread across its 31 showroom and 41 service outlets located in 31 Indian cities.
   
   Mr Peter T Honegg MD & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India said that "We are bullish about the Indian market and this is reflected in our long term commitment towards the dynamic Indian market. The investment of INR 850 crores will help us strengthen our production and operational capabilities with regards to our existing products and our exciting and aggressive product offensive which we are readying for the Indian market.”
   
   MBIL pioneered the luxury car industry in India by starting its India operations in 1994. In 2009, the company moved into its production facility spread over 100 acres in Chakan. The initial investment of Rs 250 crores was scaled upto to INR 600+ crores with the setting up Mercedes-Benz India's own technologically advanced paint shop capable of water based painting. The new paint shop is targeted to be operational by October, 2012 and has an annual capacity of 20,000 units (which can be extended up to 40,000 units annually).
   
   Mercedes-Benz India locally manufactures its flagship sedans the C-Class, the E-Class and the S-Class sedan in its plant in Chakan near Pune. With Daimler AG recognizing the emergence of high potential growth markets including India, Mercedes-Benz India will be amongst the first markets to start assembling the new M-Class, outside Daimler AG's parent SUV plant in Tuscaloosa/Alabama, USA.

   STUTTGART (AFN) - De Duitse sportwagenfabrikant Porsche, sinds kort onderdeel van Volkswagen, heeft over de eerste 8 maanden van dit jaar zijn verkoopdoelstelling voor heel 2012 al bijna bereikt. Dat maakte Porsche dinsdag bekend.
   
   De wereldwijde verkoop ging met 15 procent omhoog tot 92.474 auto's, terwijl oorspronkelijk voor heel 2012 op een verkoop van minstens 100.000 wagens was gerekend. Het bedrijf doet vooral goede zaken in China en andere Aziatische landen, het Midden-Oosten en Noord-Amerika. Met name de sportieve terreinwagen Porsche Cayenne vliegt de showrooms uit.
   
   Porsche is de meest winstgevende Duitse autofabrikant en mikt voor 2018 op een wereldwijde verkoop van circa 200.000 auto's. Het bedrijf uit Stuttgart heeft hoge verwachtingen van de terreinwagen Porsche Macan, de kleinere broer van de Cayenne, die eind 2013 op de markt moet komen.

   Krk en Rab hebben we maar overgeslagen;24‘C en zonnig.

   Heb vroeger in Porec en Novigrad gezeten met vrienden. Een jaar of wat later nog eens in Vodice, een stuk zuidelijker voorbij Zadar. Leuke tijd gehad daar als jong volwassene :)

    PARIJS (AFN) - De Duitse fabrikant van luxeauto's Audi ligt goed op koers om zijn verkoopdoelstelling van 1,4 miljoen wagens in 2012 te realiseren. Dat heeft topman Rupert Stadler donderdag gezegd op de autoshow van Parijs.
    
    Volgens Audi steeg de verkoop in de periode van januari tot en met augustus met 12,7 procent. Ook in september liep de verkoop goed, aldus Stadler. Voor 2015 mikt het dochterbedrijf van Volkswagen op een wereldwijde verkoop van 1,5 miljoen auto's.

    BMW plant in US is now its top production facility - Report
    
    BL reported that it could end up being BMW's largest car manufacturing facility in the world ahead of the Dingolfing unit back home in Southern Bavaria in Germany.
    
    Spartanburg in South Carolina will see 300,000 BMW X3, X5 and X6 models produced this calendar, going up to 350,000 units two years down the line. By then, the X4 will be part of the BMW line-up in this plant. Dingolfing, in contrast, accounted for around 280,000 cars in 2011.
    
    Officials told journalists visiting the plant last week that nearly 70% of the cars produced in Spartanburg are exported. The trip was organized by Lanxess, the German specialty chemicals maker, a key supplier of auto parts to BMW.
    
    Spartanburg has been home to BMW for nearly two decades now and has helped the German carmaker emerge the largest American export brand. The cars head out to 130 countries from this part of the US.
    
    An auto observer told Business Line that "Years ago, not too many people would have thought that South Carolina would be an important auto hub. It was Detroit all the way."
    
    Today, Detroit is a shadow of its former self where iconic American brands like General Motors, Ford and Chrysler are thinking more Asia Pacific and Latin America in an intensely competitive global arena.
    
    The availability of a port in South Carolina is a big help to companies like BMW which export a substantial part of their output. It is a familiar script in India where states like Gujarat are showcasing their strengths in ports and roads to woo global names like Ford, Suzuki and Peugeot.
    
    It will also be interesting to see if Spartanburg will be BMW’s largest plant through this decade. The company has big plans for China which has comfortably overtaken the US as the world’s largest car market.
    
    China also offers the benefits of economies of scale which BMW could well leverage to service other regions like ASEAN and Latin America. India may not replicate China’s numbers, but will continue to be relevant as the youngest country in the world where new buyers are gradually tilting towards luxury cars.

    FRANKFURT AM MAIN (AFN) - Kredietbeoordelaar Moody's heeft woensdag zijn beoordeling verlaagd van de kredietwaardigheid van de autobouwers Fiat en PSA Peugeot Citroën. De firma wijst daarbij op de krimpende Europese automarkt.
    
    De rating van PSA Peugeot Citroën gaat van Ba2 naar Ba3. Volgens Moody's zijn de reorganisatieplannen van het Franse concern misschien niet genoeg om zoals gepland in 2014 weer break-even te draaien. De kredietbeoordelaar rekent in 2013 op een daling in de vraag naar auto's met 3 procent en toenemende prijsconcurrentie in West-Europa.
    
    De beoordeling van Fiat gaat eveneens naar Ba3 van Ba2. ,,De verlaging reflecteert de afname in de vraag naar Italiaanse auto's dit jaar'', aldus Moody's. Fiat leunt volgens de kredietbeoordelaar zwaar op de krimpende Italiaanse markt.

    Auto industry cuts down growth projections for 2012-13
    
    Business Line reported that in another sign of a slowing economy, the auto industry once again cut down its growth projections for 2012-13. It now expects vehicle sales to grow 5% to 7% this fiscal against the revised lower estimate of 9% to 11%.
    
    The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers attributes this to slowing demand, subdued rise in incomes, as also higher vehicle and fuel prices.
    
    SIAM also cut this fiscal’s car sales projection for the second time this year, and now expects growth to be in low singles. The current projection is now 1% to 3% lower than the already lowered forecast of 9% to 11% in July.
    
    Mr S Sandilya president of SIAM said that “Overall, the auto industry’s sales will grow by 5% to 7% much lower than the earlier estimate of 11% to 13% for this fiscal. We don't expect to have a good festival season.”
    
    According to SIAM, the cost of ownership of passenger cars is expected to increase by 3% to 5% on the back of petrol price rise and vehicle price hike. This will further decelerate passenger car segment. Car makers such as Honda, General Motors and Maruti Suzuki, as also Audi have all hiked prices ahead of the festival season.
    
    Mr S Sandilya said that “The USD 145 billion turnover target of the 2016 Auto Mission Plan is unlikely to be met, given the current growth figures. In our estimate, the industry would fall short by 20% to 25% by 2016, which translates into USD 34 35 billion.”

    Mercedes rolls out first SUV made in India
    
    Business Line reported that Mercedes Benz India rolled out the first locally assembled SUV, the ML 250 from its Chakan plant on Wednesday and, announced the start of operations of its new, start of the art paint shop that is capable of water based painting.
    
    Mr Ralf Mungenast director of International Productions, Daimler AG said that "This is the first Mercedes Benz SUV model in India and we will further increase the range. We look forward to being a long term player and be prepared to take a large piece of the pie."
    
    India is the only country outside of the USA where the German luxury car maker has begun production out of the new ML-Class.
    
    Mr Piyush Arora director of Technical, Mercedes BenzIndia said that the company had started with the ML 250 CDI and production of the ML 350 CDI as well as the GL Class will follow in the next one year or so.
    
    He said that built from CKD units, the ML 250 is currently localised to a degree of around 30%, with the power train and axles being sourced locally and is priced at INR 4.6 million ex showroom, Delhi.
    
    Mr Debasis Mitra head of sales and marketing said that MBI launched a CBU version of the ML 350 earlier this year, as well as a revamped model in June after which demand has doubled to 100 units per month. The recently launched B Class is also sold out till December and will reopen for booking next year.

    PARIJS (AFN) - De autofabrikanten Renault en Nissan willen tussen nu en 2016 de kostenbesparingen uit hun samenwerking verdubbelen tot 4 miljard euro. Dat berichtte persbureau Reuters maandag op gezag van bronnen rond de twee autobedrijven uit Frankrijk en Japan.
    
    De topman van beide ondernemingen, Carlos Ghosn, heeft het nieuwe besparingsdoel volgens ingewijden bekendgemaakt tijdens topoverleg tussen de besturen van de twee autobouwers eind september. De extra bezuinigingen zouden nodig zijn om de verslechterde marktomstandigheden in Europa het hoofd te bieden.
    
    De twee autobouwers sloten in 1999 een alliantie. Renault heeft een belang van ruim 43 procent in Nissan, dat weer een belang van 15 procent in zijn Franse branchegenoot heeft. De twee fabrikanten werken op veel terreinen samen, zoals inkoop en ICT. Dat heeft tot dusver geleid tot kostenbesparingen van ruim 2 miljard euro.

    Verkoop Jaguars en Land Rovers omlaag

    MUMBAI (AFN) - De verkoop van Jaguars en Land Rovers is in september voor het eerst sinds juli vorig jaar gedaald. De verkoop van de Britse luxemerken kromp op jaarbasis met 4 procent tot 26.461 voertuigen. Dat maakte het Indiase moederbedrijf Tata Motors maandag bekend.
    
    De dalende verkoop van Jaguars en Land Rovers is een tegenvaller voor Tata Motors, dat 90 procent van zijn winst uit die automerken haalt. In augustus steeg de verkoop nog met 13 procent en in de voorgaande maanden sprong de verkoop zelfs met 40 procent omhoog.
    
    Tata Motors kocht Jaguar en Land Rover in 2008 van het Amerikaanse Ford voor 2,3 miljard dollar. Het bedrijf maakt daarnaast onder zijn eigen naam auto's en vrachtwagens voor de Indiase markt.

    'Franse overheid gaat Peugeot helpen'

    PARIJS (AFN) - De Franse overheid overweegt de verlieslijdende autofabrikant PSA Peugeot Citroën van staatssteun te voorzien via de financieringstak van het bedrijf. Dat zei de Franse minister van Financiën Pierre Moscovici woensdag, aldus zakenkrant The Wall Street Journal.
    
    De Franse overheid wil daarbij hulp van de banken inschakelen. Eerder meldde de Franse krant Le Figaro al dat aan een reddingspakket werd gewerkt voor Banque PSA, de financieringstak van Peugeot, en dat een besluit snel zou komen. Banque PSA zou dringend middelen nodig hebben om autodealers van geld te voorzien.
    
    PSA Peugeot Citroën heeft zwaar te lijden onder de sterk dalende autoverkopen in Europa. Onlangs werd nog gemeld dat het bedrijf een fusie zou willen met het verlieslijdende Europese dochtermerk Opel van het Amerikaanse General Motors.

    Daimler verlaagt winstdoel '12 terwijl winst KW3 verkleint
    
    
    AMSTERDAM (Dow Jones)--Daimler AG (DAI.XE) heeft zijn winstdoelstelling voor het volledige jaar 2012 verlaagd, terwijl het concern een winstdaling van 11% onderging in het derde kwartaal, door zware marktomstandigheden, aldus de Duitse autofabrikant woensdag.
    
    "Door de economische uitdagingen, zal Daimler niet voldoen aan de hoge winst voor rente en belasting (Ebit) die in het voorgaande jaar behaald werd, maar nog steeds een goede winst genereren", stelt Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche.
    
    Daimler gaat nog steeds uit van een stabiele winst over het volledig jaar, ondanks aanzienlijke investeringen voor het verbreden van zijn productlijn en het opschroeven van de productiecapaciteit.
    
    De nettowinst daalde over het derde kwartaal met 11% naar EUR1,21 miljard in vergelijking tot hetzelfde kwartaal een jaar eerder. De Ebit, ofwel operationeel resultaat, is 2,5% gedaald tot EUR1,92 miljard, terwijl de omzet op jaarbasis met 8,2% steeg naar EUR28,6 miljard, waarbij de verkoop van auto's, vrachtwagens en bestelwagens met 1% steeg.
    
    Daimler ging er eerder dit jaar vanuit dat de Ebit over geheel 2012 uit zal komen op het niveau van afgelopen jaar, aangezien kosten voor het verbreden van zijn product line-up en het verhogen van de productcapaciteit extra gewicht zou leggen op de winst dit jaar.
