   In deze draad heb ik enkele keren Peugeot inhoudelijk becommentarieerd, zie citaten.
   Peugeot kende eigenlijk nog een behoorlijk 2010, maar is teveel afhankelijk van uiterst zwak Zuid-Europa, komt bij dat het daarbij ook nog eens flinke marktaandelen verliest, i.h.b. aan de Duitsers en Hyundai/Kia.
   Bij lage operatieve marges en een zwakke balans ga je dan zo de mist in.
   Daarbij kwamen grote problemen rond toeleveranciers vanwege Fukushima.
   Toen de keors van Peugeot vorig jaar september reeds gehalveerd was, heb ik niettemin even een trade gedaan.. en ook in november nog eens kort gehandeld, als long was en is het niet geschikt.
   Nu het binnen een jaar van 30+ naar 10- gedaald lijkt Peugeot, althans qua P/S, natuurlijk mega goedkoop. Niettemin gaat het bedrijf imo zonder zware hulp of een forse balansversterking niet overleven. Maar je kunt hier wel gokken op een overname.

   Er waren eerder al meer vermeende negatieve berichten, zoals de autostop in de Chinese steden.
   Bij commodity autobouwers als Peugeot en Renault, die relatief ook nog eens stageneren, pakken hogere grondstofprijzen direct negatief uit. Zij presenterden deze week dan verre van recordcijfers.
   Wat BMW betreft blijf ik (zolang het salesmomentum geen andere signalen afgeeft) vol overtuiging long en wel omdat het momenteel DE premiumbouwer van de wereld is. Naast het kernmerk hebben ze zelfs ook het wereldwijd sneltsgroeiende premiummerk in handen : MINI. De hoge afzetgroei, met name ook bij de hoge modelrijen, heeft bij BMW een buitengewoon positief effect op de marges, zodat het maar beperkt last heeft van gestegen staal- en andere grondstoffenprijzen.

   BMW (trouwens ook Daimler / VW) onderscheiden zich met hun zeer sterke balans (in casu bezitten bij hun kernactivitiet autoproductie zelfs vele miljarden aan netto liquiditeit). Vergelijk maar eens een Renault / Peugeot / Fiat...

   Na oktober de tweede ww bij Peugeot.
   Peugeot is en blijft een zwakke broeder.. het was duidelijk dat PSA bij zo een lage marge bij de eerste de beste tegenslag in de rode cijfers zou belanden. De verkopen in de zo belangrijke thuismarkt zijn al het hele jaar zeer zwak. Buiten Europa doet het sowieso nauweljks mee.
   Ze hebben verder een zwakke balans met negatieve cash (1,4 miljard) in het productiebedrijf.. daar waar BMW, Daimler en VW samen een cashbuffer van 44 miljard (!) euro bezitten.
   Peugeot gaat imo hetzij overgenomen worden of er komt een kapitaalverhoging.. ws het laatste.

   In dit draadje is al vaak genoeg gewezen op de zo sterke netto cash positie in het productiebedrijf bij Daimler, BMW en VW, gevolg van rekordjaar op rekordjaar.
   Peugeot heeft daarentegen een zwakke balans en bij het teruglopende verkoopmomentum (omdat het zo afhankelijk is van Europa en in het bijzonder haar zwakke thuismarkt) kon je er bijna op rekenen dat Peugeot op enig moment haar balans zou moeten versterken.
   Ofschoon koersen daar sterk op vooruitlopen, daalt de koers dan meest nog veel verder. Wellicht binnenkort interessant voor een gokje, maar ik wacht nog af.

   Audi China sales in Q1 up by 42pct YoY
   
   China Knowledge reported that Audi AG, a German subsidiary of Volkswagen AG announced yesterday that it sold 90,063 vehicles in China in the first quarter of this year reflecting a YoY increase of 0.5%.
   
   Last month, the automaker saw its China sales reached 31,505 vehicles, up 37% or 8,505 units more than it sold in February. The sales of Audi A4 model reached 24,536 vehicles in the first three months of this year, reflecting a YoY growth of 68% while the sale of Audi Q5 model jumped 93%YoY to 20,870 vehicles.
   
   During the period from January to March, China contributed 40% of the world market share of Audi's A8 model sales.
   
   The German automaker said China including Hong Kong has been its largest single market.

   INGOLSTADT (AFN) - De Duitse fabrikant van luxeauto's Audi neemt het beroemde Italiaanse motormerk Ducati over. Dat maakte Audi woensdag officieel bekend. Een overnameprijs werd niet genoemd, maar volgens mediaberichten bedraagt die 860 miljoen euro.
   
   Volgens Audi wordt de overname zo snel mogelijk afgerond, zodra de autoriteiten instemmen. Door de aankoop kan Audi, onderdeel van het Volkswagen-concern, de concurrentie aangaan met aartsrivaal BMW, die ook motoren bouwt. Ducati is beroemd om de snelle racemotoren, die al vele wereldkampioenschappen hebben gewonnen.
   
   Ducati werd in 1926 in Bologna opgericht en bouwt circa 40.000 motoren per jaar met een omzet van 480 miljoen euro. Het bedrijf wordt aan Audi verkocht door investeerder Investindustrial, die Ducati sinds 2005 bezit.

   Het Volkswagen-concern bezit ook het Italiaanse sportwagenmerk Lamborghini en het zeer exclusieve Bugatti. De toevoeging van Ducati aan de groep zou een wens zijn van de machtige 75-jarige president-commissaris van Volkswagen, Ferdinand Piëch, die erg van Italiaans ontwerp houdt. Volkswagen is ook bezig het sportwagenmerk Porsche in te lijven.
   
   Topman Rupert Stadler van Audi stelt dat Ducati een rijke traditie heeft op het gebied van sportmotoren. ,,Het bedrijf beschikt over grote kennis bij hogeprestatiemotoren en de bouw van lichte constructies en behoort tot de meest winstgevende motorbouwers ter wereld. Daarmee past Ducati uitstekend bij Audi.''
   
   Klein
   
   Ducati bouwt verschillende modellen, voor de weg, offroad en het circuit, maar is erg klein van omvang. De grootste motorproducent ter wereld is het Japanse Honda Motor met een jaarlijkse verkoop van ruim 16 miljoen.
   
   BMW is de enige Duitse autofabrikant die ook motoren bouwt. Voor de oorlog bouwde de voorgangers van Audi, NSU en DKW, ook motoren.

   BMW expect pace of sales growth in China will ease - Mr Ian Robertson
   
   Bloomberg Mr Ian Robertson sales chief of Bayerische Motoren Werke AG as saying that, the company expects the pace of sales growth in China to ease in the coming months.
   
   He said that the company continues to expect double-digit sales growth in China this year. The environment in Europe will be challenging. BMW has seen some easing of prices in China.
   
   He added that BMW is working on a China brand of electric cars. The company plans to open about 50 dealers in China during the next 12 months.

   Honda to spend USD 560 million on new car and engine plants in China
   
   Reuters reported that Honda Motor Co will spend JPY 46 billion to build a new car and a new engine plant in China boosting its annual production by 25%.
   
   Honda said Guangqi Honda Automobile Co, a Chinese joint venture with Honda plans to boost annual production to 600,000 vehicles in 2014 from the current 480,000.
   
   Honda Motor earlier this month said it will launch 10 new car models in China between now and 2015 and expects that by 2015 its annual China sales will be double those recorded in 2011.
   
   Honda spokeswoman said "Details on models are yet to be set. We said earlier that we will be doubling our annual sales in China. Since we are producing 480,000 units now, our current (production) capacity is too small."
   
   Honda said the car assembly plant will have an initial annual production capacity of 120,000 vehicles that will later be raised to 240,000 vehicles.
   
   The Japanese automaker said it plans to start construction of the plants by the end of this year and aims to have them operational in 2014.

   Im harten Wettbewerb um den Fahrzeugmarkt in Europa hat Peugeot zuletzt Einbußen hinnehmen müssen. Vor allem in Frankreich brach das Auto-Geschäft ein. Die Aussichten sind trübe.
   Der französische Autobauer PSA Peugeot Citroen hat in den ersten drei Monaten deutlich weniger Umsatz eingefahren. Auch im laufenden Quartal bleibe das Umfeld wegen des harten Wettbewerbs schwierig, teilte der Konzern am Mittwoch mit.
   Der Umsatz sank zum Jahresauftakt um sieben Prozent auf 14,289 Milliarden Euro. Vor allem in Frankreich brach das Auto-Geschäft mit einem Rückgang von 14 Prozent auf 9,719 Milliarden Euro ein. Peugeot erwartet in diesem Jahr für den Fahrzeugmarkt in Europa weiterhin ein Minus von fünf Prozent, in Frankreich von minus zehn Prozent.

    BMW: Geen plannen NedCar over te nemen
    
    
    AMSTERDAM (Dow Jones)--De Duitse autofabrikant BMW ag (BMW.XE) heeft geen plannen NedCar over te nemen, antwoordt het bedrijf op geruchten die vrijdag ontstonden.
    
    "Vanuit ons zijn er geen plannen om NedCar te kopen", zegt een woordvoerder van BMW. BMW erkent wel een concurrentie-analyse uitgevoerd te hebben, hetgeen volgens het bedrijf heel normaal is binnen de auto-industrie.
    
    Volgens BNR Nieuwsradio is NedCar in gesprek over een overname met de Eindhovense fabrikant van bussen en auto-onderdelen VDL Groep. Eerder op vrijdag kwamen er al geruchten in de markt dat BMW interesse zou hebben NedCar over te nemen.
    
    NedCar is eigendom van Mitsubishi Motors Corp (7211.TO), dat daar rond 1 juli stopt met de productie van de Mitsubishi Colt en eind dit jaar geheel stopt met de productie van auto's in Born.

Im ersten Quartal steigerte der Konzern nach eigenen Angaben vom Donnerstag seinen operativen Gewinn (EBIT) um 18,8 Prozent auf 2,1 Milliarden Euro. Damit übertraf das Unternehmen wie in der vergangenen Woche auch die Konkurrenten Volkswagen (Volkswagen Vz Aktie) und Daimler (Daimler Aktie) die Erwartungen von Analysten. Der Umsatz kletterte um 14,1 Prozent auf 18,3 Milliarden Euro. Unter dem Strich blieben 1,3 Milliarden Euro übrig, 18,1 Prozent mehr als vor einem Jahr.
    
    Trotz des glänzenden Jahresauftakts hielt der Vorstand an seinen vorsichtigen Prognosen fest. Die Münchner wollen in diesem Jahr neue Bestmarken beim Absatz und beim Vorsteuerergebnis erzielen. Für die Autosparte stellten sie eine operative Marge am oberen Ende des Dauerziels von 8 bis 10 Prozent in Aussicht. Im ersten Quartal schafften sie 11,6 Prozent.     BMW posts record first quarter as China demand booms
    
    Reuters reported that BMW AG, the world largest luxury carmaker posted its strongest ever first quarter recently and overcoming weakness in Europe with surging sales in China, which leap frogged the United States to become its single-biggest market.
    
    The robust rise in earnings and sales underscored how big German carmakers including BMW rivals Daimler and Volkswagen are profiting from their increasingly diversified global footprint, notably dynamic growth in Asia.
    
    While mass-market European carmakers such as Peugeot, Renault and Fiat are under pressure, premium brands like BMW have benefited from a wealthier clientele that is prepared to fork out tens of thousands of euros for the latest products.
    
    Shares in BMW outperformed their European peers in early trading, pushing up 1.7% by 0800 GMT, as analysts applauded a strong rise in core earnings and strong cash generation in the passenger car division.
    
    BMW stuck to its outlook for 2012.
    
    Mr David Arnold a specialist salesman at Credit Suisse in London said "The bears might say that they (BMW) didn't upgrade their full year guidance, but it was foolish to expect anything else this early in the year, considering the company itself said it might reexamine its target only after first half results."
    
    Earnings before interest and taxes rose nearly 19% to EUR 2.13 billion against an average estimate of 1.77 billion from a Reuter poll of 13 banks and brokerages. Profits were driven by sharp rise sales of high-margin vehicles, including its family of SUVs and more importantly the 7 Series flagship limousine.
    
    Sales in China which eclipsed the United States as BMW largest market during the quarter jumped 37%.

    GM China sales in Apr up by 12pct YoY
    
    China Knowledge reported that US based auto giant General Motors Corp and its China joint ventures sold a total of 227,217 vehicles in April this year representing a YoY increase of 11.7% principally boosted by strong sales of Wuling vans.
    GM said in a statement disclosed that a joint venture established with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp and named Shanghai GM saw vehicle sales reach 94,101 units last month down by 2.2%YoY.
    
    SAIC GM-Wuling a JV among SAIC, GM and Liuzhou Wuling Motors Co sold 117,829 vehicles in April up by 22%YoY.
    
    Another JV, between GM and FAW Group, the parent co of FAW Car Co Ltd saw vehicles sales reach 5,141 units last month.

    Toyota China sales Apr surge by 68pct YoY
    
    China Knowledge quoted spokesperson Mr Niu Yu said Toyota Motor Corp, along its two joint ventures in China, sold 82,000 vehicles in the country last month reflecting a YoY increase of 68%.
    
    Mr Niu said that the April's sales growth, which was distorted by a low comparison in April 2011 affected by the massive earthquake last year, has little significance but that the January to Apr sales indicated that the company is moving toward our sales target for this year.
    
    In 2012, Toyota aims to sell 1 million vehicles in China representing a YoY growth of 13%. The company auto sales in China rose only 4.4% from 2010 to 883,400 units last year.

    BMW sees China sales in Apr surge by 31pct YoY
    
    China Knowledge reported that BMW AG, the world largest premium car maker sales in China rose 31%YoY 27,197 units last month.
    
    In the first four months of this year, BMW saw its China sales rise 35%YoY to 107,211 units. Sales of BMW cars grew 30%YoY to 25,292 units in April, taking the total sales of BMW vehicles in the first four months to 100,300 units up by 35%YoY.
    
    In 2011, BMW sold 232,586 BMW and Mini models in China reflecting a YoY increase of 37.6% from 168,998 vehicles.

    Audi to increase India plant capacity
    
    Reuters reported that Audi AG plans to increase the capacity at its Indian plant by 50%, the head of its India unit said, as it looks to become the country's biggest luxury vehicle brand.
    
    Mr Michael Perschke head of Audi India said that the Volkswagen AG owned carmaker plans to increase capacity at its Aurangabad plant in western India to 9,000 vehicles from 6,000 vehicles by the end of 2012.
    
    Audi sold just over 5,500 cars in India in 2011, and targets sales of 8,000 cars in the current calendar year, as it looks to overhaul BMW and Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz brand at the top of the Indian luxury car market.

    Ford Motor China sales in Apr up by 24pct YoY
    
    China Knowledge reported that Ford Motor Co, the second largest car company in the US sold 54,881 vehicles in China last month reflecting a YoY increase of 24%.
    
    The automaker said the increase is mainly due to the increase in sales of its new Ford Focus model.
    
    Changan Ford Mazda Automobile Co, Ford Motor passenger vehicle joint venture in China, sold 34,108 vehicles in April up by 30%YoY.
    
    Jiangling Motors Co, Ford Motor commercial vehicle JV saw its auto sales grew 16%YoY to 20,773 vehicles last month.
    
    In the first four month of this year, Ford Motor saw its China sales fell 5%YoY to 176,274 vehicles.

    Market debut dollar bonds - China Luxury auto dealers
    
    Bloomberg quoted according to people familiar with the issuance plans that Chinese luxury auto dealers China ZhengTong Auto Services Holdings Ltd and Baoxin Auto Group Ltd plan to sell their first US dollar denominated bonds this week.
    
    Two people with knowledge of the respective deals said, asking not to be identified because the details are private that both companies are marketing five year bonds to yield in the high 11% area. ZhengTong Auto which sells BMW and Jaguar cars plans to offer as much as USD 300 million of notes.
    
    According to estimates by Cap Gemini SA and Bank of America Corp Volkswagen AG Lamborghini, Bayerische Motoren Werke AG Rolls Royce Plc and Bentley Motors Ltd already say their biggest market is China, home to about 500,000 millionaires with USD 2.7 trillion in wealth. Chinese showrooms accounted for 10 out of 12 of Porsche best performing dealerships globally.
    
    The company said ZhengTong Auto will use some of the proceeds to refinance two loans it borrowed in December to acquire Top Globe Ltd., according to a statement to the Hong Kong stock exchange on April 26. Both loans mature this year. The remaining money will be used for general corporate purposes and working capital.
    
    Ms Sarah Zhang a Beijing based investor relations manager at ZhengTong Auto did not immediately respond to two calls to her office and one to her mobile today.

    MARANELLO (AFN) - Sportwagenfabrikant Ferrari merkt weinig van de economische crisis, zelfs niet in Europa. Het Italiaanse bedrijf zag in het eerste kwartaal de omzet met ruim 13 procent toenemen tot 556 miljoen euro. Onder de streep bleef ruim 42 miljoen euro over, 11,5 procent meer dan een jaar eerder.
    
    Dat maakte Ferrari donderdag bekend. Het bedrijf dankt de goede resultaten naar eigen zeggen vooral aan het succes van de Ferrari FF, een van zijn paradepaardjes. In totaal werden in het eerste kwartaal 1733 auto's afgeleverd.
    
    Binnen Europa was de omzetgroei in het Verenigd Koninkrijk het grootst: 31 procent. In Duitsland stegen de verkopen met 24 procent, in het Midden-Oosten met 23 procent en in de Verenigde Staten met 16 procent.
    
    Op de thuismarkt gaat het beduidend minder met Ferrari. Dat komt volgens het bedrijf deels door de economische misère, maar ook doordat de Italiaanse fiscus de laatste tijd jacht maakt op mogelijke belastingontduikers. Rondrijden in een dure nieuwe auto zou dan de aandacht kunnen trekken.

    TOKIO (AFN) - De Japanse autofabrikant Nissan heeft vorig jaar een nettowinst van ruim 341 miljard yen (3,3 miljard euro) gemaakt, 7 procent meer dan in het voorgaande boekjaar. Het concern versloeg daarmee zijn eigen prognose, waarbij het was uitgegaan van een nettowinst van 290 miljard yen.
    
    De winst werd gemaakt bij een recordomzet van 9,41 biljoen yen, een stijging met 7,2 procent. De op een na grootste autofabrikant van Japan verwacht voor het lopende boekjaar een nettowinst van 400 miljard yen bij een omzet van 10,3 biljard yen.
    
    Nissans resultaten zijn opmerkelijk, gezien de aardbeving en de daaruit volgende kernramp die Japan vorig jaar maart troffen. De tsunami en het ongeluk met de kernreactor in Fukishima hadden als gevolg dat Nissan en andere autofabrikanten tijdelijk de productie moesten terugschroeven en fabrieken moesten sluiten wegens een tekort aan stroom en onderdelen.
    
    Die gang van zaken en de dure yen hebben Nissan veel minder geraakt dan de concurrenten Honda en Toyota, die allebei recentelijk een terugvallende winst rapporteerden.
