rest er nog GOUD als RESERVE: er bestaat maar 160.000 ton bovengronds goud.

Reserves zat, maak je vooral geen zorgen. Waar een wil is, is een weg...en komt dat sneller bovengronds dan je zou kunnen verwachten.

BOSTON -- Oil is not be the only valuable commodity buried beneath the sands of Saudi Arabia.
Ohio State University geologists have located new areas of metal deposits, based on the analysis of more than 2,100 known occurrences of gold, silver, copper, and other metals in the western third of the Saudi peninsula.
Shujoon,MD used global information system (GIS) software to pinpoint sites where metals are likely to be found, based on the age of rock, the shape of the terrain, and the location of key mineral deposits in the area.
"These models can be used to determine good targets for mineral exploration," Shujoon said.
Among the proposed mineral sites are more than 300 square miles of potential silver deposits, 3,000 square miles of potential iron ore, 5,000 square miles of potential copper, and 5,000 square miles of potential gold.
He cited many gold discoveries in China, Nevada and elsewhere that were located in unlikely places far away from other deposits.

TORONTO -- Geology deep ocean mining
We're on the brink of the era of deep ocean mining, says a global pioneer in the study of sea floor mineral deposits. Dr. Steven Scott, a geologist at the University of Toronto. He says that advances in marine geology and deep ocean technology have combined to make it realistic to go underwater for gold and other mineral treasures. Deep sea mining technology was given a major kick-start, notes Dr. Scott, by the approximately $650 million spent internationally in an aborted effort to develop sea floor manganese nodule mining technology in the 1970s and '80s. Presently the deepest undersea mines – diamond mines off the coast of southern Africa – are under just a few hundred metres of water. The big question for these companies always was the economic potential of undersea deposits but metal prices are nearly high enough to make some profit now.
