    Europorte 2, a subsidiary of Eurotunnel, is a rail freight operator holding a licence granted by the French Minister for Transport, which allows it to operate goods trains throughout Europe.

    Until now, the economic situation of Eurotunnel did not allow this subsidiary to start operations, but its management has begun to develop fruitful commercial contracts.

    For Europorte 2, the concept of local operator can be defined in three ways:


    short and medium length journeys from Calais (return the same day);
    collaboration with the existing operators on low or medium density traffic;
    serving port and private infrastructures.



    As a first, concrete step in its development, Europorte 2 has, in February 2007 acquired 5 Class 92 locomotives, equipped to work in the Tunnel and authorised to work on the entire British rail network. These locomotives will be brought into service starting in 2007.

    Europorte 2, een dochteronderneming van Eurotunnel, is een exploitant die van de spoorvracht een vergunning houdt die door de Franse Minister voor Vervoer wordt verleend, dat het toestaat om goederentreinen in heel Europa in werking te stellen. Tot nu toe, stond de economische situatie van Eurotunnel deze dochteronderneming niet toe om verrichtingen te beginnen, maar zijn beheer is begonnen vruchtbare commerciële contracten te ontwikkelen. Voor Europorte 2, kan het concept lokale exploitant op drie manieren worden bepaald: plotseling en middelgrote lengtereizen van Calais (terugkeer dezelfde dag); samenwerking met de bestaande exploitanten op laag of middelgroot dichtheidsverkeer; dienende haven en privé infrastructuren. Aangezien een eerste, concrete stap in zijn ontwikkeling, Europorte 2 heeft, in Februari verwierf 2007 5 Klasse 92 locomotieven, die worden en om in de Tunnel te werken worden gemachtigd uitgerust om aan het volledige Brits spoornetwerk te werken. Deze locomotieven zullen in de dienst worden gebracht die in 2007 begint.
