    groetjes

The Great Chinese Crash of 2008
By Todd Wenning April 7, 2008

    Recommendation

Have you heard a lot about Chinese stocks lately? Neither have I.

That's probably because the Chinese stock markets are experiencing a nosedive not unlike the Nasdaq plunge of 2000. Since their October highs, the Shanghai Composite (SSE) is down 44%, and the Hang Seng is down 24%. I guess our financial media is too concerned about the S&P's 13% decline to care.

I mean, just take a look at some of the significant drops of Chinese American depositary receipts over the past six months:

    groetjes

A Big Upgrade for Suntech Power
By Dave Mock April 8, 2008

    Recommendations

Every day the sun rises on Wall Street and a plethora of professional analysts wake to issue new opinions on stocks. Here at the Fool, we examine some of these picks -- and the track record of the firm behind them -- so individuals can make better investing decisions.

In addition to following professional banks, anyone can use Motley Fool CAPS to monitor the collective opinions of more than 95,000 investors -- many of whom actually demonstrate better investing insight than published analysts.

In the case of Suntech Power (NYSE: STP), enough top-performing CAPS investors have turned bullish on the stock recently to upgrade it from a notable four-star rank to a tip-top five stars. With nearly 3,000 investors giving an opinion on Suntech, there's plenty of information in the various resources of CAPS as to why things are looking brighter for the company these days.

Since the solar industry is still budding, and influenced heavily by government policies and regulations, companies up and down the solar supply chain often see their stocks move in tandem. Suntech's stock has had its share of ups and downs lately -- shares more than doubled late in 2007, only to come spiraling back down early this year. Then just last week, renewed optimism coupled with a big new contract for peer Trina Solar (NYSE: TSL) ignited shares of many in the solar industry, inducing double-digit gains in First Solar (Nasdaq: FSLR), LDK Solar (NYSE: LDK) and Solarfun Power (Nasdaq: SOLF).

With Suntech in particular, many recent events have aligned to bring more investing bulls into the pen -- the company inked an eight-year polysilicon supply agreement, its forward earnings multiple is still below projected growth, and oil remains priced above $100 a barrel. With consumers increasingly concerned with the impact and cost of fossil fuels -- warranted or not -- alternative energy stocks continue to benefit. As such, more than 96% of the 2,927 investors rating Suntech believe it will beat the S&P going forward.

To see what the very best CAPS analysts are saying now about Suntech Power -- as well as other winning stocks they are picking -- head on over to CAPS and have a look. The community research and resources in CAPS are totally free, unlike analyst opinions reserved only for paying clients.

Senate Democrats Introduce Renewable Energy Tax Credit Legislation
    Washington, D.C., United States [RenewableEnergyWorld.com]
United States Senators Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and John Ensign (D-NV) have introduced the Clean Energy Stimulus Act of 2008. The bill extends the commercial Investment Tax Credit (ITC) for eight years and removes the utility exemption.

The bill also extends the residential solar credit for one year and removes the $2,000 cap. The bill currently has 23 co-sponsors. The vehicle for the package has not yet been announced; however, those behind the bill are confident they can get the 61 co-sponsors that the bill will need to pass the Senate.

"From New Hampshire to Michigan to Oregon, this bill provides a much-needed shot in the arm for our ailing national economy. This legislation will create thousands of jobs, unleash billions in investment and prevent a major disruption in this fast-growing sector — all at a time when we need it the most,” said Rhone Resch, President of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA).

The bill also extends the residential solar credit for one year and removes the $2,000 cap. The bill currently has 23 co-sponsors. The vehicle for the package has not yet been announced; however, those behind the bill are confident they can get the 61 co-sponsors that the bill will need to pass the Senate.

"We commend Senators Cantwell and Ensign for their leadership in crafting a bipartisan approach to the urgently needed extension of renewable energy tax incentives that are scheduled to expire at the end of this year. More than 116,000 jobs and US $19 billion in investment in new, clean energy sources like wind and solar power hang in the balance awaiting Congress’s decision on this critical issue,” said Gregory Wetstone, Senior Director of Governmental and Public Affairs for the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA).

DESC staat op 0.50 of zie ik dat verkeerd ?
Mocht het net zo goed gaan worden als de zonneenergie zit in deze koers nog een hoop stijging.
