    RWE Update on Final phase of demolition of Didcot A Power Station

    The final demolition at the former Didcot A Power station will take place on Sunday 9th February between 7 am and 9 am. The exact timing will be determined on the day by the engineers on site. This final demolition will bring down the Chimney which was the tallest structure on the former power station site.

    It will take a few more months of clearance work to fully complete the Didcot A demolition. The future of the site has not yet been determined; however, following full clearance it will be ready for new uses.

    AC Energy and BIM Group’s JV Tops List of Best Clean Energy Companies

    AC Energy, Ayala Corporation’s energy arm, and the BIM Group of Vietnam’s renewable energy development platform recently bagged top ranking as one of Vietnam’s leading clean energy companies, as announced by the Vietnam Energy Magazine. BIM/AC Renewables’ first project, the 330 MW solar farm in Ninh Thuan, is a pioneering development of its scale in Southeast Asia. It was inaugurated in April 2019. The independent evaluation accounted for the scale of renewable energy investment, adherence to global clean energy trends, technology and equipment used, factors to promote clean energy development and others, as main criteria.

    AC Energy is expanding beyond the Philippines, and has identified Vietnam, Indonesia, Australia and others as key target markets, with expansion plans that will complement existing renewable energy projects in the Philippines.

    As of November 2019, AC Energy has a net attributable capacity of over 1,600 MW, of which 600 MW is from renewable sources. As one of the fastest growing energy companies with over US$1 billion of invested and committed equity in renewable and thermal energy in the Philippines and around the region, AC Energy aspires to achieve 5 GW of attributable renewable energy capacity, and generate at least 50 percent of total energy output from renewables by 2025.

    Voor de grote elektriciteitsbedrijven zit nu even alles mee

    Beleggers in de grote Europese energiebedrijven beleven tot nu toe een uitstekend jaar. Terwijl de koersen van andere bedrijven onder druk staan vanwege het coronavirus, schieten de koersen van RWE (Duitsland) EDF (Frankrijk) en Enel (Italië) omhoog, en niet zo'n beetje ook. RWE kon bijvoorbeeld sinds het begin van het jaar bijna 21% bijschrijven.

    De koers van EDF ging 18% omhoog, die van Enel 16%. Dat soort bewegingen zijn voor deze bedrijven uitzonderlijk en staan in schril contrast met de koersen van de grote oliebedrijven met een notering in Europa. Die bungelen als sector juist onderaan, met als belangrijkste oorzaak de gedaalde olieprijs.

    Wat is er aan de hand?
    Op dit moment lijkt alles mee te zitten voor de grote elektriciteitsbedrijven. De olieprijs is hard gedaald vanwege de uitbraak van het coronavirus. Maar dat geldt ook voor de gasprijs. En die was al langer relatief laag, onder andere vanwege veel aanbod van schaliegas uit de Verenigde Staten.

    Gasprijzen op een dieptepunt
    Door het coronavirus is er nu plotseling minder vraag naar gas uit China, waardoor het gas nóg veel goedkoper wordt. De industrie in China draait op een veel lager pitje vanwege het virus en de Chinezen proberen zelfs al bestelde tankers met vloeibaar gas terug te sturen.

    Goed nieuws voor elektriciteitscentrales die op gas draaien. 'Voor het eerst in lange tijd kunnen die centrales weer winstgevend draaien,' zegt Shanawaz Bhimji, analist bij ABN Amro. Ook de kolen zijn goedkoop. Steeds meer kolencentrales gaan dicht vanwege milieu-eisen, en het aanbod van kolen blijft op peil.

    Elektriciteitsprijzen vastgezet
    Dat betekent dat de centrales die nog wel op kolen draaien dat relatief goedkoop kunnen doen. 'De energiebedrijven hebben de elektriciteitsprijzen voor langere tijd vastgezet, waardoor ze optimaal profiteren van de lage grondstoffenprijzen,' zegt Bhimji.

    Bovendien gelden de elektriciteitsbedrijven nu vanwege de onrust op de markten als een strategische keuze voor beleggers.

    Aandelen in dit soort bedrijven zijn defensieve aandelen. Daarmee valt de sector te vergelijken met beleggen in obligaties, die ook als 'veilige haven' worden gezien. Nu de rente extreem laag staat, worden dit soort bedrijven als een aantrekkelijk alternatief voor obligaties beschouwd.

    GE T&D India Bags PGCIL Solar Power Evacuation Work in Rajasthan

    GE T&D India Limited has won a contract from the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited to construct 765kV gas-insulated substation bays at Phagi in the Jaipur district of Rajasthan. This is GE’s first 765 kV GIS order from PGCIL. The scope of the project includes the end-to-end commissioning of the GIS bays, including substation automation and relay panels. The bays will be an extension to the Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited’s existing 765 kV substation at Phagi, which was also commissioned by GE earlier using air insulated switchgear technology.

    The Phagi substation is a part of the transmission scheme that involves implementation of Ajmer-Phagi 765 kV line, along with associated bays, to facilitate the evacuation of renewable energy generated in solar parks at Bhadla, Fatehpur and Bikaner to various beneficiaries.

    Once the 765 kV GIS bays are installed at Phagi, the state will be able to evacuate around 1 GW of additional renewable energy from these solar plants. This will result in the effective utilization of more green energy by the state and lower reliance on coal as the source of power generation.

    Daimler Inks Deal for 100% Green Power in Germany

    Multi-national auto giant Daimler has revealed plans to source 100 per cent of its electricity demand in its home country of Germany from “firmed” and “flexible” renewables, in deal put together by Norwegian power company Statkraft. The contract includes wind farms that are already in operation, as well as some that will be built new and used exclusively to power Daimler. Any gaps in demand will be filled by Statkraft’s own hydropower plants.

    New deal, which builds on a December 2018 energy supply deal between the companies, would also support existing wind power projects in Germany which, from January 01, 2021, will lose their government subsidy for electricity generation.

    Statkraft said the contract, which will be managed by an offshoot of Luxembourg energy company Encevo Group, called Enovos, marked the first instance of a long-term 100% green power supply deal on an industrial scale in Germany.

    RWE Welcomes King's Lynn Power Station to its UK Gas Fleet

    UK's second largest generator of electricity RWE Generation has welcomed the 382 MW King’s Lynn Power Stations to its UK fleet. It said “We are pleased to add this combined cycle power plant to RWE’s current total installed capacity of over 8.9 gigawatts in the UK, which generates 10% of the UK’s electricity needs.”

    The GBP 105 million transaction to acquire the power station was completed on 12 February 2020, a few months after the acquisition was first announced in December 2019. As part of this, RWE will take on more than 30 employees from the power station to add to its skilled team.

    With the acquisition of King’s Lynn, the existing RWE gas portfolio in the UK reaches a total of 7.1 gigawatts. This makes RWE Generation one of the largest operators of gas-fired power stations in the UK.

    VDL hengelt miljoenenorder Tennet binnen

    Het Eindhovense industrieconcern VDL heeft een omvangrijke klus binnengehaald. Voor 'enkele tientallen miljoenen euro's' gaat het bedrijf 104 hoogspanningsmasten leveren aan de landelijke netbeheerder Tennet.

    De nieuwe hoogspanningsmasten, van 60 tot 80 meter hoog, worden vervaardigd bij VDL-dochteronderneming KTI in het Belgische Mol.

    De masten zullen tussen begin 2021 en eind 2022 worden geleverd en geplaatst op het traject tussen het Zeeuwse Borsele en Rilland.

    De hoogspanningslijnen die de masten verbinden, transporteren stroom van de windparken voor de Zeeuwse kust. Die zullen dit jaar en volgend jaar klaar zijn.

    VDL meldt dat de hoogspanningslijnen die de masten verbinden, straks stroom moeten transporteren van de windparken voor de Zeeuwse kust. Die zijn volgens het concern naar verwachting dit jaar en volgend jaar gereed.

    Europese investeringsbank

    Om het project te financieren maakte Tennet maandag bekend €250 mln te hebben opgehaald bij de Europese investeringsbank (EIB). Daarmee heeft de EIB zeker €1,8 mrd aan financieringen uitstaan bij de netbeheerder.

    VDL, dat 17.000 medewerkers telt in 20 landen, heeft het afgelopen decennium al meer dan vijfhonderd masten aan TenneT geleverd. Over 2019 boekte het concern een jaaromzet van ruim €5,7 mrd.

    Sterke winststijging voor RWE

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) Het Duitse RWE heeft het operationeel resultaat afgelopen boekjaar zien toenemen. Dit bleek donderdag uit de jaarresultaten van het nutsbedrijf uit Essen.

    RWE meldde een aangepast operationeel resultaat (EBITDA) van 2,1 miljard euro, tegen 1,5 miljard euro een jaar eerder. In het aangepaste cijfer zijn de activiteiten die zijn overgenomen van E.ON niet meegeteld.

    De stijging schreef RWE toe aan de goede prestaties bij LNG en de “uitzonderlijk” sterk presterende handelstak van het bedrijf.

    De aangepaste nettowinst kwam uit op 1,2 miljard euro, een ruime verdubbeling ten opzichte van de 591 miljoen euro in 2018.

    Dividend

    Het nutsbedrijf stelde donderdag een dividend over 2019 voor van 0,80 euro per aandeel. Over 2020 verwacht de onderneming een dividend uit te keren van 0,85 euro per aandeel.

    Outlook

    Voor het lopende boekjaar gaat het bedrijf uit van een aangepaste EBITDA tussen de 2,7 miljard en 3,0 miljard euro. Het aangepaste bedrijfsresultaat (EBIT) komt naar verwachting van het bedrijf uit tussen de 1,2 miljard en 1,5 miljard euro. Op nettoniveau wordt op een aangepaste basis uitgegaan van 0,85 miljoen tot 1,15 miljoen euro.

    Tot aan 2022 wil het bedrijf netto 5 miljard euro investeren in relatief schone energiebronnen.

    Koers

    Het aandeel RWE noteerde donderdagochtend 11,5 procent lager.

    Tennet schroeft investeringen op vanwege vergroening

    Landelijk netbeheerder Tennet gaat zijn investeringen de komende jaren opschroeven naar €4 mrd tot €5 mrd per jaar. Nu investeert Tennet nog zo'n €3 mrd per jaar. De extra uitgaven zijn nodig om de verduurzaming van het energiesysteem in Nederland en Duitsland mogelijk te maken. Dat heeft Tennet donderdagochtend bekendgemaakt bij de presentatie van zijn jaarverslag.

    'Als gevolg van het duurzame energiebeleid in Nederland en Duitsland zullen onze investeringen naar verwachting verder stijgen. Om de onderneming financieel gezond te houden, verwachten we de komende vier jaar €2 mrd tot €3 mrd aan aanvullend eigen vermogen nodig te hebben'', aldus financieel-directeur Otto Jager.

    Een groot deel van de miljardeninvesteringen van Tennet vindt in Duitland plaats. Vooral de bouw van grote windparken op zee vraagt om miljardeninvesteringen voor aansluitingen en verbindingen. Duitsland heeft besloten de capaciteit van offshore windparken te vergroten van 15 gigawatt naar 20 gigawatt.

    Tennet werkt in Duitsland daarom aan meer grootschalige onshore hoogspanningsverbindingen dan ooit tevoren. Er zijn acht hoogspanningslijnen in aanbouw die veel windenergie vanuit het noorden naar eindgebruikers verder in het zuiden transporteren.

    Nederland

    Ook Nederland heeft grote uitbreidingsplannen voor offshore windenergie. Dit houdt in dat Tennet tot aan 2030 9,6 gigawatt aan aansluitcapaciteit voor offshore windparken in het Nederlandse deel van de Noordzee moet hebben gerealiseerd.

    Tennet liet eerder al weten dat de enige aandeelhouder, de Nederlandse Staat verschillende opties onderzoekt.

    'Succesvol en uitdagend jaar'

    'Voor Tennet was 2019 zowel een succesvol als een uitdagend jaar', aldus Mano van Beek, bestuursvoorzitter van Tennet in een persverklaring. De netbeheerder zag de omzet vorig jaar met 3% dalen tot ruim €4 mrd. Het bedrijfsresultaat vóór rente en belastingen daalde nog iets harder, met 10% naar €768 mln.

    ABB Powers E-Mobility Progress in Chile with Innovative Charging Solution

    Chile becomes the first country in Latin America to have bus terminals equipped with ABB heavy vehicle chargers, setting a precedent for the region. In a landmark move towards widening the adoption of e-mobility in Chile, ABB’s Heavy Vehicle Chargers are set to power a fleet of 25 electric buses in the country. Redbus Urbano, which operates buses in the capital Santiago’s public transport network, unveiled new terminals featuring the chargers in the presence of Chilean minister of Transport, Gloria Hutt. The ceremony also marked the 1000th bus with new Chilean standard (Euro VI or Electric). Santiago now has 411 electric buses in operation, more than any other Latin American city.

    ABB has supplied eight Heavy Vehicle Chargers, each with three depot charging boxes, for the terminals in the cities of Nueva Bilbao and El Salto. These chargers are the first to be supplied in Latin America, and feature ABB’s sequential charging technology.

    A single power cabinet is paired with up to three depot charge boxes. Installed in the depot, they are connected with the buses and after the first vehicle has finished charging, the next vehicle will start charging automatically.

    The HVC’s provide high charging power to the buses to ensure maximum vehicle availability. In addition, with having three depot boxes connected to a 150 kW power cabinet, charging of three buses only require 33 percent of the grid connection compared to three standalone 150 kW chargers, reducing initial investment and operational costs.
