   (ABM FN-Dow Jones) Siemens wil zijn aardgas-en-elektriciteits-activiteiten afsplitsen vooruitlopend op een mogelijke beursgang, maar wil wel invloed houden op het nieuwe bedrijf. Dat maakte het Duitse elektronicaconcern dinsdag bekend.
   
   "In samenhang met deze maatregelen is Siemens van plan om zijn belang in Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy over te dragen aan het nieuwe bedrijf", aldus Siemens.
   
   De beursgang van het nieuwe bedrijf zou uiterlijk september 2020 moeten plaatsvinden. De raad van commissarissen ging dinsdag akkoord met het plan.
   
   De divisie, die componenten voor de energiesector ontwerpt en installeert, kampte de laatste tijd met een afnemende wereldwijde vraag naar conventionele elektriciteitscentrales, wat drukte op de winst van Siemens.
   
   In september kondigde Siemens kostenbesparingen aan. Er zouden in Duitsland 2.900 banen verdwijnen bij de activiteiten die zich richten op fossiele brandstoffen, met name bij de activiteiten op het gebied van aardgas en elektriciteitscentrales.

   French & Irish regulators back EU grants for Celtic undersea power cable
   
   French energy regulator CRE and its Irish counterpart CRU said that they are backing a bid by the Celtic Interconnector undersea power cable project to get at least 60% of its 9UR 30 million investment from European Union grants. The regulators said that in the context of Britain's exit from the European Union, the project will establish a direct power link between Ireland and the European internal energy market. It would also improve Ireland's security of supply.
   
   The regulators said they have agreed that 65% of the project's estimated investment costs will be allocated to Ireland and 35% to France.
   
   The 700 MW high-voltage power cable project, led by French power grid operator RTE and Ireland's EirGrid, will be the first interconnector linking Ireland to France. The Celtic Interconnector, set to run from the southern Irish coast to Brittany in France from 2026, was declared a common interest project by the European Union's executive arm, making it eligible for grants from the bloc.

   US energy consumption, production and exports reach record highs in 2018 - EIA
   
   The United States produced a record amount of energy from various sources in 2018, reaching 96 quadrillion British thermal units (quads), an 8% increase from 2017. This increase in production outpaced the 4% increase in US energy consumption, which also reached a record high of 101 quads. At the same time, US energy exports increased 18% to a record high of 21 quads in 2018, reducing net energy imports into the United States to a 54 year low of 4 quads, or less than 4% of US energy consumption.
   
   In 2018, crude oil and natural gas accounted for 57% of all US energy production, with crude oil production seeing an increase of 17% and natural gas an increase of 12% from 2017. Natural gas plant liquids production also increased by 14%. Energy production from renewable energy increased 4% from 2017, mostly because of growth in solar (22%), wind (8%), and biomass energy (2%). Nuclear electric power production remained virtually unchanged in 2018. Coal was the only energy production source to decrease in 2018, falling 2% from 2017 levels.
   
   Total US consumption of energy also increased from 2017 levels but at a slower pace than production. Compared with other fuels, petroleum had the largest gap between growth in production and growth in consumption in 2018. The 17% increase in crude oil production outpaced a modest 2% increase in total domestic petroleum consumption, resulting in a 73% increase in exports of crude oil and a 6% increase in exports of petroleum products in 2018 compared with 2017.

   ESSEN (AFN) - Het Duitse energieconcern E.ON heeft in het eerste kwartaal een lagere winst behaald. Het bedrijf kampte vooral met prijsdruk bij zijn Britse consumentenactiviteiten vanwege door de overheid ingestelde prijsbegrenzingen en felle concurrentie in Groot-Brittannië.
   
   Het onderliggend operationeel resultaat daalde in de eerste drie maanden van dit jaar met 8 procent tot 1,2 miljard euro vergeleken met vorig jaar. De aangepaste nettowinst was 650 miljoen euro tegen 727 miljoen euro vorig jaar.
   
   Apart van de gang van zaken in Groot-Brittannië zei E.ON dat de kernactiviteiten van het bedrijf een solide kwartaal hebben gedraaid, met name offshore wind en hydro-elektriciteit in Turkije. De verwachtingen voor heel 2019 worden gehandhaafd. Daarbij mikt de onderneming onder meer op een onderliggend resultaat van 2,9 miljard tot 3,1 miljard euro.
   
   Verder ligt E.ON naar eigen zeggen op koers met de overname van Essent-moeder Innogy van huidig eigenaar RWE. EO.N verwacht in de tweede helft van dit jaar alle benodigde goedkeuringen voor de deal te krijgen. De Europese Commissie is nog bezig met onderzoek naar de zaak.

   Greek grid gets EIB loan for Crete undersea power link
   
   Reuters reported that Greece moved closer to cutting Crete's reliance on oil to generate power as grid operator ADMIE signed a EUR 178 million European Investment Bank loan to partly fund undersea cables to the mainland. The 132 kilometre interconnection of Crete to the Peloponnese peninsula is key to ensuring the power supply on the island which relies solely on oil-fired plants and will help Greece ramp up its renewable energy capacity. The project, budgeted at 350 million euros, consists of two undersea cables, and is expected to be completed next year.
   
   Total lending in Greece by the EIB, which is owned by the European Union's 28 member states, stands at EUR 19 billion, including green energy, transport and telecommunications projects.

   Orsted divests Stigsnaes Power Station and Stigsnæs Transit Harbour
   
   Ørsted has just signed an agreement with the Danish consortium Stigsnæs Industripark A/S according to which the consortium acquires Stigsnaes Power Station and Stigsnæs Transit Harbour near Skælskør. The transaction also includes the Stigsnæs coal terminal. Mr Thomas Dalsgaard, Executive Vice President and CEO of Bioenergy in Ørsted said that “We’re pleased with having found Stigsnæs Industripark A/S as a new and solid owner of Stigsnæs Power Station and Stigsnæs Transit Harbour. The power station has been closed since 2012, so currently we primarily use the area as a coal transit harbour. However, having decided that from 2023 Ørsted will no longer use coal as fuel, it makes perfect sense to free up these areas and allow for new development here.”
   
   The consortium Stigsnæs Industripark A/S, which is acquiring Stigsnæs Power Station and Stigsnæs Transit Harbour, was founded by four companies with extensive experience within demolition, refinement of by-products, transport and the contracting industry.
   
   Stigsnæs Industripark A/S takes over the obligation of cleaning up the area and plan to remove the existing power station buildings with a view to developing the area.
   
   Rimeco Aktieselskab – one of the companies in the consortium – has previously acquired the Ensted Power Station near Aabenraa in the southern part of Jutland from Ørsted and is currently removing the buildings and developing the area. Mr Klaus Peter Riggelsen, CEO of Rimeco, said that “We’ve been interested in Stigsnæs Power Station for some years. The demolition and recycling potential of the power station is huge, and Stigsnæs Transit Harbour is one of the deepest in Europe, offering great potential for developing and operating the harbour. The partners included in the consortium have unique competences within the areas needed for this task. So we’re looking forward to getting started.”
   
   Mr Mads Kloster, who is CEO of Kloster A/S and has vast experience within e.g. transport and stevedoring services, said that “If you want to operate a harbour in Denmark, Stigsnæs Power Station is very high on your wish list. The harbour has a unique location on the charts and its depth and large hinterland offer great opportunities for development and for attracting customers from both Denmark and abroad. We’re looking forward to taking on the task, and we’re happy to be part of a consortium with several large and long-established Danish companies, each having unique knowledge within their respective fields.”
   
   P. Olesen & Sønner A/S, which is Denmark’s largest demolition company, is also looking forward to the task. CEO Mr Peter Olesen said that “Demolition of large industrial plants like Stigsnæs Power Station is one of our key competences, and when we were given not only the demolition task, but also the opportunity of joining a consortium which will develop and operate the harbour, we immediately accepted. We’re looking forward to working with our new partners.”
   
   The fourth partner of the consortium is HM Entreprenør A/S, which is one of Denmark’s largest construction companies with many tasks on Zealand already. CEO Michael Mortensen said that “We’re always looking for interesting tasks, especially projects that involve more than just construction work. When we were asked to join this project as a partner, we immediately accepted. The work in the consortium has been very efficient, with a short way from thought to action. This suits us well, so we’re looking forward to the future. The hinterland of the harbour is extensive and will accommodate many new companies.”
   
   The consortium states that it will involve the local community, including Slagelse Municipality, in the process to create as much activity in the area as possible.

   Making wind powered water injection a commercial reality
   
   ‘WIN WIN’ (WINd powered Water INjection) was conceived in 2013 by DNV GL and is now ready for prototype development after two joint industry projects have shown the concept to be both cost efficient and technically feasible. Water injection is an effective tool in exploiting oil reserves, but the process is often inhibited by the high costs associated with large gas or diesel generators and complicated subsea infrastructure. By using a floating wind turbine, the WIN WIN concept allows the injection system to operate independently, eliminating the need of long flowlines from the platform.
   
   DNV GL has worked extensively with oil and gas companies since 2015 to bring the ‘WIN WIN’ concept to prototype readiness. The first phase of research explored the techno-economic feasibility of the wind powered water injection, while, the recently-completed second stage involved advanced proof-of-concept lab tests.
   
   President & CEO of DNV GL, Mr Remi Eriksen said that “It is always inspiring to see a great idea whose time has come edge towards reality. Wind power working for oil and gas, and oil and gas working for wind power, not only captures the imagination in these times of transition, but makes a lot of business sense. The question, now, is who is going to take this concept into physical reality?”
   
   Project director, Johan Sandberg said that “From the start, this project has always had a commercial focus. Potentially substantial rewards await a first mover willing to build a prototype to increase technology readiness and optimize system integration. As operators know too well, conventional water injection is expensive, with the power plant occupying valuable deck space and expensive flowlines running to the injection site. With WIN WIN, the power is supplied in situ at potentially much lower cost, with increased flexibility and without emissions.
   
   Mr Jayme Meier, Vice-President, ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company, said that “In the latest round of research, DNV GL conducted a joint industry project with funding provided by ExxonMobil and Vår Energi AS. The completion of phase 2 of the WIN WIN JIP drives us one step closer to a technically viable and commercially deployable system.”

   PARIJS (AFN/BLOOMBERG) - Het Franse energieconcern Engie heeft in de eerste drie maanden de operationele winst zien dalen. Het warme winterweer, waardoor het bedrijf minder energie kon afzetten in Frankrijk was daar deels debet aan. Ook produceerde Engie minder stroom in België door problemen met de kerncentrales in dat land.
   
   Engie haalde een brutowinst van 3,1 miljard euro, bijna 5 procent minder dan een jaar eerder. De Fransen verwachten echter de opgelopen achterstand in de rest van het jaar in te kunnen lopen.
   
   Het matige eerste kwartaal zet druk ook topvrouw Isabelle Kocher die Engie wegstuurt van fossiele brandstoffen naar hernieuwbare energiebronnen, gereguleerde energienetwerken en energiebeheersdiensten. Het bedrijf wil de komende drie jaar de terugkerende inkomsten met 7 tot 9 procent per jaar laten groeien.

    ESSEN (AFN) - Het Duitse energiebedrijf Innogy heeft in de eerste drie maanden van het jaar de brutowinst flink zien dalen. Het bedrijf had dat al zien aankomen, na de verkoop van zijn Tsjechische gasnetwerk en de verwachte lagere winst in het Verenigd Koninkrijk als gevolg van de invoering van een maximumtarief. Ook de opbrengsten van Innogy, het moederbedrijf van Essent, vielen lager uit.
    
    De aangepaste brutowinst (ebit) van Innogy daalde met ruim een vijfde tot 964 miljoen euro. Het energiebedrijf verkocht voor ruim 11 miljard euro aan energie in de meetperiode. Dat was 1,6 procent minder dan een jaar eerder. Wel wekte Innogy iets meer stroom op uit duurzame bronnen.
    
    Innogy, dat wordt overgenomen door E.ON, bevestigde zijn verwachtingen voor heel het jaar. De onderneming denkt dat de investeringen dit jaar wel een stuk hoger uitvallen dan in 2018.

    PARIJS (AFN/RTR) - Het Franse elektriciteitsbedrijf Électricité de France (EDF) heeft afgelopen kwartaal het resultaat verbeterd. Hogere elektriciteitsprijzen speelden daarbij een grote rol. Ze wisten de lagere productie van de nucleaire- en waterkrachtcentrales te compenseren.
    
    De marktomstandigheden op de stroommarkt in het thuisland en sterke prestaties van EDF Trading droegen ook bij aan de sterkere prestaties van EDF. De Britse omzet daalde wel flink, door een langdurige uitval van een nucleaire reactor in het land.
    
    In de meetperiode dikten de opbrengsten voor EDF met 2,5 procent aan tot bijna 21 miljard euro. Voor heel het jaar werden de doelstellingen herhaald.

    ESSEN (AFN/RTR/BLOOMBERG) - Het Duitse energieconcern RWE heeft de winst afgelopen kwartaal zien groeien. Dat kwam onder meer door sterke resultaten van zijn handelstak en hogere elektriciteitsprijzen, zo bleek woensdag.
    
    Dat compenseerde ruimschoots de verstoring van de bruinkoolmijn in Hambach. RWE zag het bedrijfsresultaat (ebitda) met 70 procent groeien in de eerste meetperiode van het jaar, tot 510 miljoen euro. Dat is fors meer dan de 302 miljoen euro die kenners in doorsnee hadden voorzien. Het aangepaste nettoresultaat kwam uit op 273 miljoen euro, van 78 miljoen euro een jaar terug.
    
    Het bedrijf herhaalde zijn financiële doelen voor heel 2019. RWE wil verder zijn dividend opvoeren.

    Bedrijven verzuimen massaal verplichte opgave energiebesparing
    
    Nog maar 1% van alle bedrijven die verplicht zijn om op te geven welke energiebesparende maatregelen zij hebben genomen, heeft dat daadwerkelijk gedaan. Dat blijkt uit cijfers van de Rijksdienst Ondernemend Nederland (RVO) die BNR Nieuwsradio heeft opgevraagd.
    
    Sinds dit jaar zijn organisaties die jaarlijks minimaal 50.000 kWh stroom of 25.000 m³ aardgas verbruiken verplicht om door te geven wat ze doen om energie te besparen.

    Sinds dit jaar zijn organisaties die jaarlijks minimaal 50.000 kWh stroom of 25.000 m³ aardgas verbruiken verplicht om door te geven wat ze doen om energie te besparen. Het gaat dan bijvoorbeeld om winkels, showrooms en bedrijven met veel machines. Ter vergelijking: een gemiddeld huishouden verbruikt zo'n 4000 kWh elektriciteit en 1700 m³ aardgas per jaar.
    
    Deadline op 1 juli
    
    De rapportage van energiebesparende maatregelen moet vóór 1 juli aanstaande ingediend zijn. Ondernemingen met meer dan 250 werknemers of een omzet van meer dan €40 mln hoeven dit pas in december te doen.
    
    Volgens de RVO vallen 125.000 bedrijven onder de verplichting, maar hebben nog maar 1300 organisaties dit gedaan. Op het niet melden staat een dwangsom van minimaal €1000. De handhaving is in handen van provincies en gemeenten.
    
    Volgens brancheorganisaties schort het aan duidelijke voorlichting van de overheid waardoor veel ondernemers niet weten dat die verplichting er is. Uit een enquête van MKB Servicedesk blijkt bijna 75% van de ondernemers niets weet van de meldplicht.
