    Mooi! Nu nog wat goed nieuws inderdaad. Je vraagt je wel af waarzo'n stijging opeens vandaan komt. Ik begreep de daling ook al niet overigens. Maar goed, ben er wel blij mee nu.

    Geen idee, maar het gaat wel fors. Nog eens benadrukt door zo'n pb. Lijkt wel de bedoeling om de koers nog verder te drukken.

    Merck to buy S.F. biotech Sirna for $1.1B

    Drug giant Merck & Co., said it will acquire San Francisco-based Sirna Therapeutics Inc. for $1.1 billion.
    Sirna (NASDAQ:RNAI - News), which is developing a new class of drugs that uses RNA interference, or RNAi, technology, was one of the first biotechnology companies to be drawn to San Francisco's Mission Bay with the development of the University of California, San Francisco's campus there.

    Merck (NYSE: MRK - News) said it will buy Sirna for $13 per share in cash and operate it as a wholly owned subsidiary. A joint announcement from the two companies gave no indication about what impact, if any, the merger would have on executives or staffing at Sirna.

    RNA interference is a natural, selective process for turning off genes. RNAi is triggered by so-called short interfering RNA -- siRNAs. Typically, drugs work by binding with proteins that are the underlying cause of a specific disease. Sirna's technology, by contrast, prevents the production of the deleterious protein.

    Sirna's lead candidate is in a mid-stage clinical trial for the treatment of age related macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in the United States, as part of a collaboration with Allergan Inc.

    In April, the company announced a major alliance with GlaxoSmithKline to develop siRNAs to treat respiratory disease.

    Sirna also has unpartnered programs in areas including infectious diseases, metabolism, CNS and dermatology.

    The companies said Sirna stockholders owning about 36 percent of the outstanding shares have already committed to supporting the transaction and entered into voting agreements. They expect the transaction to be completed in the first quarter of 2007.

    Inderdaad,gefeliciteerd nog iedereen die ze nog heeft,al zullen er natuurlijk ook wel zijn die ze jammer genoeg voor hun net verkocht hebben.

    Alleen vind ik het aan de andere kant ook minder aangzien dit zo ongeveer het koersdoel van einde dit jaar was, en ik heb helemaal geen zin om nu aandelen merck te gaan kopen ;) Dan maar op zoek naar wat anders.. einde draadje?
