   Als april net zo'n mooie maand voor de koers van Arcelor wordt als maart dan gaan we de goede kant op...
   De prijs van ijzererts was fors gedaald, maar er lijkt nu weer een herstel aan te komen. Als de rente in juni inderdaad gaat dalen, zal de aanloop naar deze daling volgens mij een stijging in de koersen laten zien. Het omzetvolume was de laatste tijd aan de zeer lage kant, dus dat kan alleen maar stijgen als de inkoop van eigen aandelen richting een afronding gaat.
   Kortom: ik ben en blijf een ras optimist. ;-}

   ArcelorMittal Zenica is van plan om de cokesbatterij te sluiten

   Het in Bosnië en Herzegovina gevestigde ArcelorMittal Zenica, een dochteronderneming van de in Luxemburg gevestigde staalfabrikant ArcelorMittal, heeft aangekondigd dat het van plan is zijn cokesbatterij te sluiten als gevolg van stijgende kosten en verminderde vraag. Een reeks substantiële onderhoudsinspanningen is niet voldoende geweest om de levensduur te verlengen en ArcelorMittal Zenica heeft geconcludeerd dat verdere upgrading niet haalbaar is, niet zou voldoen aan de milieunormen en een veiligheidsrisico zal opleveren voor de werknemers van de cokesfabriek.
   
   Het bedrijf zal staal blijven produceren via de hoogovenroute en coke kopen bij externe bronnen. “ArcelorMittal Zenica zal er alles aan doen om ervoor te zorgen dat het sluiten van de cokesbatterij een beperkte impact heeft op de lokale economie. Er zullen uitdagingen zijn, maar we zullen er alles aan doen om het maximale aantal banen te behouden. Het plan is om te proberen veel van de werknemers van de cokesbatterij naar andere afdelingen in Zenica te verplaatsen”, aldus Nikhil Mehta, CEO van het bedrijf.

   Indian steel producer ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel has awarded Danieli Corus an order for a new greenfield pellet plant project, to be implemented at the Visakhapatnam site in India.     Bloomberg) -- Iron ore rose — with futures pushing back above $100 a ton — on speculation that demand may pick up in China, the largest steelmaker.
    Futures gained more than 4% to trade near $103 a ton in Singapore, rebounding from a second consecutive weekly loss during which they hit the lowest since last May. The climb came as Chinese traders returned after a long weekend.
    Steel demand from construction and manufacturing “both have potential to improve” following stimulus, China Industrial Futures Co. said in a note. “Mills are also slowly restarting blast furnaces after profits improved.”
    The steel-making staple remains one of the year’s worst performing major commodities, with losses that have been driven by persistent concerns that China’s drawn-out property crisis would hobble demand. Still, some macro data from Asia’s largest economy has shown an uptick recently, with factory activity beating expectations in March.
    Iron ore traded 4.5% higher at $102.80 a ton at 10:48 a.m. in Singapore, while yuan-priced futures in Dalian climbed. Steel contracts in Shanghai were also stronger.
    China is the world’s largest iron ore importer, with its mills taking the majority of cargoes in the global seaborne market. The biggest suppliers are miners in Australia and Brazil, including Rio Tinto Group and Vale SA.
