Bidding launched for £1bn Welsh framework
28 August, 2018 By Jack Simpson
Contractors are being sought for a new £1bn construction framework covering schools and public buildings in Wales.
Bidding has now been launched for the south-east and mid-Wales Collaborative Construction Framework (SEWSCAP), which will run for four years from 2019 and be open to local councils, hospitals and other public bodies.
The framework will be split across 11 lots ( see box ).
Lots 1-5 are region-specific, with lots 1-4 covering projects worth £250,000-£1.5m and the region of Powys having a second higher-value package (lot 5) for jobs valued at £1.5m-£5m.
Lots 6-10 cover higher-value projects across all the regions involved in the framework, with the value bands divided into £1.5m-£3m, £3m-£5m, £5m-£10m, £10m-£25m and £25m-£100m.
Lot 11 covers temporary building projects valued at up to £10m.
Cardiff Council will be the body managing the procurement process.
The framework will replace the existing SEWSCAP, which was launched in May 2015 and will come to an end next April.
Bam, Kier, Laing O'Rourke, Morgan Sindall and Willmott Dixon are the contractors on the existing framework's highest-value £25m-£100m lot.
Interserve and Bouygues are reserves on the list.
Bam, Interserve, Kier, Morgan Sindall and Willmott Dixon also won places on the £5m-£10m lot and £10m-£25m lot.
