Jan. 2017: Ford Motor (F, +3.79%) and Toyota Motor (TM, +1.15%) have formed a consortium to accelerate the deployment of open source software aimed at giving consumers more options in how they connect and control their smartphone apps.
The organization is called the SmartDeviceLink (SDL) Consortium, a reference to an open source software version of Ford's AppLink.
Mazda Motor (MZDAY, +1.11%), PSA Group, Fuji Heavy Industries (FUJHY, +0.76%), and Suzuki Motor (SZKMY, +2.27%), are the first automaker members of the consortium.
