Kroger flies after earnings topper
Kroger (NYSE:KR) jumps in premarket trading after posting Q3 results ahead of expectations and setting strong guidance.
Identical-store sales rose 1.1% during the quarter to top the consensus mark of 0.9%.
The company generated a FIFO gross margin rate of 22.4% of sales to also top the consensus estimate. Lower cost of goods and sales mix more than offset continued price investments made by Korger.
"We had our best ever Black Friday results for general merchandise, led by record sales at Fred Meyer," says CEO Rodney McMullen.
Looking ahead, Kroger sees full-year EPS of $2.00 to $2.05 vs. $1.97 consensus.
