    BDB is een gefrustreerde oude man die de boot heeft gemist en vroeger nooit erkenning heeft gekregen.     On January 5, Harman (one of the largest Tier1s in infotainment and telematics to OEMs) announced the introduction of the Harman Service Delivery Platform for connected cars.

    With the platform Harman allows OEMs and service providers to quickly deploy connected car services based on a scalable could platform. The initial map partner of Harman was Here, announced the same day. Yesterday, Harman also announced that other partners will join Harman’s delivery platform, chief amongst which TomTom and Inrix.

    The way we see it is that Harman (with which TomTom has already partnered on the Toyota contract) has created a new service with the end client (OEMs like VW or Opel) determining which company is chosen as a partner for maps, traffic, weather, POIs, speed alerts, parking.

    In other words, TomTom is now a partner of Harman (which it already was on other projects) but it is not guaranteed any revenue. Harman will have to sign up clients for its delivery platform after which the client can still chose Here for maps and Inrix for traffic.

    Conclusion:
    It is positive that TomTom is also chosen as a possible service provider but the framework agreement does not guarantee TomTom any revenue yet.

    Ik realiseerde me in de eerste reactie van gisteravond niet dat HERE al de eerste partner van harman was en dat tomtom er bij kwam. Daar kwam harrysnel mee. Bovenstaande stukje zegt hetzelfde: op zich goed nieuws dat harman nu ook content van tomtom verkoopt maar nog niet meer dan dat.

    nee, maar dat zelfde geldt dus ook voor HERE... geen revenue mits ze iets verkopen. TomTom komt nu "gewoon" naast HERE op de plank te liggen.
    Ik vroeg het gisteren al, stel dat ze via Harman maar 10% rev binnen halen. dat is dan wel 10% pure nieuwe omzet. over wat voor bedragen praat je dan?

    Kan dit ook nog een negatieve impact hebben op de omzet van TT?
    (Autofabrikanten liever in zee gaan met een Harman systeem met TT functionaliteiten dan met TT direct, tenslotte moet Harman ook nog wat marge maken ?)

    Als je puur kijkt naar de tekst van de Here/Harman melding dan gaat het bij Here alleen om Real Time Transport Protocol Experts Group (TPEG) Traffic.

    Bij het stuk over TT gaat het over veel meer

    In het oorspronkelijke persbericht over het Harman Service platform staat:

    Dus Here alleen Traffic en alleen TT maps????

    Interessant dat Goddijn benadrukte dat de nieuwe HAD maps niet duurder zijn (meer omzet genereren) dan de oude maps maar dat er ook abonnementen verkocht kunnen worden voor updates...

    Naast maps levert TT ook de real-time traffic en andere services. Vrij compleet pakket dus!

    Zou zo maar kunnen betekenen dat er een megadeal in de pijplijn zit met bijv. GM of Toyota.
    Misschien zijn daar die extra en versnelde ontwikkelingskosten voor nieuwe klanten voor?

    Zag je dat oudere berichtje dat Luxoft werkte voor Ford's infotainment system? Waarschijnlijk in opdracht van Harman? Ford en Toyota leggen regelmatig de handen op de zelfde buik. Dan nog GM er bij en dan zouden we het niet eens zo vervelend meer vinden als VW vals zou gaan spelen. Hoewel vals spelen mij als violist wel nogal tegen de borst stuit.
