   Crucell Presents Indian Phase I Rabies Antibody Cocktail Study, Positive Results Enable Prompt Progression Towards Phase II Studies
   
   Leiden, The Netherlands, 30 November 2007 - Dutch biotechnology company Crucell N.V. (Euronext, NASDAQ: CRXL, Swiss Exchange: CRX) today announced the results of the second clinical evaluation of their rabies monoclonal antibody cocktail. Data for the Phase Ib study conducted in India which started in April 2007 indicate that the cocktail is well tolerated, provides the expected neutralizing activity and that it can be safely administered in combination with a rabies vaccine. The results are presented today, by Dr. Christophe Python, at the Joint International Tropical Medicine Meeting 2007 in Bangkok, Thailand.
   
   The clinical trial was a randomized, double-blinded, placebo controlled study in healthy volunteers that tested the human monoclonal antibody cocktail against rabies alone, in a dose escalation design, as well as in combination with a rabies vaccine. In the first, blinded, part of the study, in which solely the antibody cocktail was given, rabies virus neutralizing activity could be demonstrated at both dose levels that were administered. In the second, open, part of the study, in which the rabies antibody cocktail was administered in combination with a rabies vaccine, all volunteers seroconverted within 14 days upon the initiation of treatment. A level of rabies virus neutralizing activity (i.e. > 0.5 IU/mL) was achieved that is considered to provide protection against the deadly virus, thus proving that the antibody cocktail can be safely co-administered in line with standard therapy.
   The data from the Indian study confirm and extend the results of the first-in-human Phase I study conducted in the US, which was presented on 3 October 2007 at the XVIII Rabies in the Americas RITA conference in Mexico. The combined data from both Phase I studies prompt the progression towards Phase II studies which are expected to start in the first half of 2008 in the US and the Philippines.
   
   "The positive results from both studies, together with the Fast Track designation for this antibody cocktail which we were awarded just recently, supports our commitment to moving as fast as possible to address the unmet medical need that exists for rabies," said Dr. Jaap Goudsmit, Chief Scientific Officer.
   
   On 13 November 2007, Crucell announced that it had been granted Fast Track designation for its rabies antibody cocktail by the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Department of Health and Human Services. The Fast Track program facilitates the development and expedites the review of new drugs that are intended to treat serious or life-threatening diseases and that demonstrate the potential to address unmet medical needs.
   
   Crucell is developing the rabies antibody cocktail for the post-exposure prophylaxis of rabies. The antibody cocktail is a combination of two human monoclonal antibodies and is produced with the use of Crucell's MAbstract® and PER.C6® technologies. Based on market needs, peak sales for Crucell's rabies antibody cocktail are expected to exceed US$ 300 million.
   
   Crucell has already contracted DSM Biologics, its alliance partner for the PER.C6® technology platform, for the process validation and manufacturing of antibody batches for phase III clinical efficacy studies.
   
   About rabies
   Rabies is a viral disease of mammals most often transmitted through the bite of a rabid animal. The virus infects the central nervous system, causing encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) and ultimately death if medical intervention is not sought promptly after exposure. There is no proven treatment for rabies once symptoms of the disease have appeared. Lethal rabies is prevented by post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) via the combined administration of a rabies vaccine and RIG following the bite of a rabid animal. Current supply and quality of rabies vaccine is sufficient, but RIG is in short supply and carries certain safety risks.
   
   Rabies is prevalent in Europe, Asia, North and South America as well as Africa. Every year, approximately 10 million people are vaccinated worldwide. With the exception of the US and Europe, most of these people do not receive RIG due to shortages and are therefore not adequately protected. As a result, an estimated 40,000 to 70,000 people die of the disease each year, mainly in Asia.

   Amsterdam (BETTEN BEURSMEDIA NEWS) - Crucell heeft positieve resultaten bekendgemaakt in de Indiase studie naar zijn middel tegen hondsdolheid. Dat heeft het biotechnologiebedrijf vrijdag bekendgemaakt. Eerder werden al goede uitkomsten behaald in een klinisch onderzoek dat in de Verenigde Staten werd gehouden.
   
   De rabies-cocktail wordt goed getolereerd door patienten en brengt de verwachte neutralisering, aldus Crucell. Ook kan het middel veilig worden gebruikt in combinatie met een vaccin tegen hondsdolheid.
   
   De resultaten die in India zijn behaald, maken in combinatie met de onderzoeksuitkomsten in de Verenigde Staten een snelle vooruitgang mogelijk naar de tweede fase van de klinische studie. Deze fase gaat naar verwachting in de eerste helft van 2008 van start, in de VS en de Filipijnen.
   
   Volgens Crucell overlijden er jaarlijks wereldwijd tussen de 40.000 en 70.000 mensen aan hondsdolheid, vooral in Azie. De Leidse onderneming denkt dat zij met haar medicijn uiteindelijk een piekomzet van meer dan USD 300 miljoen kan behalen.
   
   De cocktail wordt ontwikkeld door twee menselijke monoklonale antistofproducten. De combinatie werd ontdekt met behulp van de MAbstract-technologie van Crucell, en het middel wordt geproduceerd met de PER.C6-technologie van het bedrijf.

   AMSTERDAM (Dow Jones)--Biotechbedrijf Crucell nv maakt vrijdag positieve testresultaten van een middel tegen hondsdolheid bekend.
   
   Het betreft resultaten die bereikt zijn in de tweede klinische test van de eerste onderzoeksfase.
   
   Dit betekent dat een tweede testfase zo snel mogelijk kan worden gestart.
   
   Een succesvolle eerste fase impliceert nog niet dat een tweede fase ook succesvol zal zijn. In deze tweede fase wordt onder andere getest op de optimale werkzaamheid van het middel.
   
   Het gaat in dit verband om een zogeheten cocktail tegen hondsdolheid die wordt toegediend nadat een persoon is gebeten.

   positieve resultaten geboekt in de ontwikkeling van een vaccin
   tegen hondsdolheid. Beleggers op het Damrak reageerden verheugd,
   het aandeel steeg met ruim 5 procent op de beurs in Amsterdam.
   
   Crucell heeft in India testen uitgevoerd op vrijwilligers.
   Het middel werd goed ontvangen en toonde de verwachte werking
   aan. Eerder waren er al gunstige resultaten geboekt met
   vrijwilligers in de Verenigde Staten.
   
   Jaarlijks sterven er 40.000 tot 70.000 mensen aan
   hondsdolheid, vooral in Azië en Afrika. De ziekte wordt op de
   mens overgebracht via beten van carnivoren (honden, katten,
   vossen, apen). Het speeksel van de besmette zoogdieren leidt tot
   een virusinfectie van de hersenen die dodelijk kan zijn.
   
   Wereldwijd worden ongeveer tien miljoen mensen per jaar na
   een beet preventief behandeld. Crucell schat de markt voor
   medicijnen tegen hondsdolheid op meer dan 300 miljoen euro.

    AMSTERDAM (Dow Jones)--Crucell nv gaat in het eerste halfjaar van 2008 beginnen met de tweede fase van het klinische onderzoek naar zijn cocktail van antilichamen tegen rabies of hondsdolheid. Dat maakt het biotechbedrijf vrijdag bekend, gelijktijdig met de positieve resultaten van een klinische test van de cocktail in de eeste fase.
    
    Beleggers reageren positief op het bericht. Het aandeel Crucell stijgt vrijdag 5,3% naar EUR12,82.
    
    De resultaten van de eerstefasestudie in India bevestigen de resultaten van de eerdere klinische test in de Verenigde Staten, die begin oktober werden gepubliceerd.
    
    Uit de studie blijkt dat de cocktail goed door patienten wordt verdragen, het virus neutraliseert en veilig kan worden gecombineerd met eem rabiesvaccin.
    
    De testresultaten worden vrijdag door dokter Christophe Python gepresenteerd op de Joint International Tropical Medicine Meeting 2007 in de Thaise hoofdstad Bangkok.
    
    "De positieve resultaten van beide studies, in combinatie met de versnelde goedkeuringsprocedure die onlangs is toegekend, ondersteunt ons streven om te voorzien in een bestaande medische behoefte op het gebied van rabies", aldus chief scientific officer Jaap Goudsmit.
    
    Eerder deze maand meldde Crucell dat de Amerikaanse medische toezichthouder Food & Drug Administration (FDA) heeft ingestemd met een versnelde goedkeuringsprocedure voor de cocktail.
    
    De versnelde procedure wordt toegekend aan nieuwe medicijnen tegen levensbedreigende ziektes, die potentieel een toegevoegde waarde bieden ten opzichte van bestaande behandelingsmethodes.
    
    De tweede fase van het klinische onderzoek naar Crucells rabiescocktail zal worden uitgevoerd in de VS en de Filippijnen.

    Vaccines uit de tests zijn van Novartis !
    Ik veronderstel dat men met deze partner de combinatie vaccine + antibodies zal gaan commercialiseren.
    
    Mogelijk iets gelijkaardigs als met Quinvaxem dwz. Crucell voor de publieke sector: WHO etc. (Aziatische tests) en Novartis voor de private sector (de USA tests) ?

    Dus er zijn partners en partners.
    Op basis van wat we weten lijkt het logisch om:
    -DSM als productie partner te hebben
    -Novartis (of Sanofi) als distributie/marketing partner te hebben (vanwegen gemeenschappelijke verkoop vaccin + antibodies).
