    DeepSeek Loses Top Spot As Tencent's Yuanbao AI Becomes The Top iPhone App In China Amid Intensifying AI Battle

    Tencent Holdings' Yuanbao AI chatbot has surpassed DeepSeek as the most downloaded iPhone app in China.

    What Happened: Tencent integrated its in-house Hunyuan AI technology with DeepSeek's R1 reasoning model, boosting the chatbot's appeal and helping it claim the No. 1 spot on China's iPhone app rankings this week, according to a report by Bloomberg.

    DeepSeek had dominated downloads for over a month. Three of the top five free apps in China are now AI-powered chatbots, with ByteDance's Doubao also ranking among them.

    In January, DeepSeek shook the U.S. stock market. Nvidia Corp. NVDA lost $600 billion in value in a single day.

    According to the Chinese startup, its chatbot can compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which it developed at a fraction of the cost.

    In response to DeepSeek's rise, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. BABA has begun benchmarking against it and announced a $53 billion AI investment.

    De verse tarievenoorlog met de Verenigde Staten ten spijt, heeft de Chinese premier voor 2025 een onveranderd - maar ambitieus - groeidoel gezet: 'ongeveer 5 procent'. De Chinese aandelenmarkten gaan in reactie omzichtig hoger, omdat ze er van uit gaan dat dat groeidoel halen veronderstelt dat Peking later dit jaar met verse stimulus komt.

    'Such has been the intensity of competition that in recent news, it has come to light how Tencent Holdings has displaced DeepSeek as the most downloaded free app in China’s iOS App Store. Tencent’s Yuanbao has taken the top spot in the free app list on Monday, with DeepSeek in second place and ByteDance’s Doubao in fourth, the South China Morning Post noted.

    Launched in May last year, Yuanbao gained popularity after Tencent’s move to integrate DeepSeek’s R1 reasoning model in February, providing users with an alternative to the tech giants’ Hunyuan model.'

    45+ weer op de borden. En er zit nog veel meer in het vat. (Chinese beurs technisch uitgebroken, eerste echte weerstand is er pas rond 30000. Dat is nog zo'n 30% te gaan.

    Ben blij met het rendement maar toch bizar hoe de korting weer verder oploopt dit jaar tegenover Tencent.

    Ik heb veel vertrouwen in Prosus. Dat koersdoel zal uiteraard niet in een maand worden gemaakt. Maar wanneer het 6 tot 12 maanden wordt ben ik tevreden!

    March 6 - Alibaba (BABA, Financial) shares soared after the Chinese tech giant unveiled its new AI reasoning model QwQ-32B, which it claims rivals DeepSeek-R1. Hong Kong-listed shares ended the session up about 8.4%, hitting a new 52-week high, while New York-trading stock rose roughly 2.5% in pre-market deals.

    The model operates with 32 billion parameters compared to DeepSeek's 671 billion, with only 37 billion actively engaged during inference, a design aimed at achieving higher efficiency amid rising demand for optimized AI performance. Alibaba said QwQ-32B delivered impressive results, especially in math and coding tasks.

    This announcement comes as Chinese tech firms intensify AI investments following DeepSeek's earlier breakthrough. Alibaba's Cloud Intelligence unit, which significantly boosted profits in the December quarter, is expected to drive further revenue growth, CEO Eddie Wu noted.

    Bernstein analysts forecast that the optimism surrounding AI could set Alibaba's earnings on a more upwardly-pointing trajectory. The company's strategic conversion to a dual primary listing on the Hong Kong and New York Stock Exchanges has already contributed to a nearly 71% year-to-date gain in Hong Kong.
