Merus and Incyte presented two posters outlining preclinical data on MCLA-145, the Biclonics® program targeting CD137 and PD-L1, on Sunday, March 31.

    The poster outlines data demonstrating MCLA-145 binds to CD137 and PD-L1 with relative high affinity, and importantly, the activation of CD137 signaling specifically occurs in the presence of PD-L1 expressing cells through a ‘trans’ activation mechanism. MCLA-145 blocks the PD-1 checkpoint inhibition pathway resulting in T cell activation independent of CD137 agonist activity.

    II. A bispecific Fc-silenced IgG1 antibody (MCLA-145) requires PD-L1 binding to activate CD137

    The poster shows MCLA-145 induces CD137 signaling specifically in the presence of PD-L1 expressing cells, with signaling strength directly correlated to PD-L1 expression level.  In preclinical studies, MCLA-145 was shown to induce cytokine secretion from T cells, to overcome the suppressive activity of M2 macrophages and Tregs, and to have antitumor activity associated with the recruitment of CD8+T cells into the tumor microenvironment.

    The clinical trial for MCLA-145 is expected to initiate in the second quarter of 2019.     Het Utrecht Science Park (USP) krijgt er een nieuw gebouw bij. ‘The Accelerator’ moet ruimte gaan bieden aan meerdere bedrijven, en is specifiek gericht op bedrijven werkzaam in de levenswetenschappen.

    The Accelerator moet een ‘multi-tenant Life Sciences’-gebouw gaan worden. Binnen moet ruimte komen voor het ontwikkelen van onder andere nieuwe therapieën voor kankerpatiënten. Om dat mogelijk te maken komt er een auditorium voor 250 personen, faciliteiten om elkaar te ontmoeten, vergaderruimtes en een uitgebreid restaurant.

    De biotechnologiebedrijven Genmab B.V. en Merus N.V. zijn de initiatiefnemers en voornaamste gebruikers van het gebouw. De ontwikkelaar Kadans Science Partner verzorgt de bouw. Naast Genmab en Merus gaat The Accelerator plaats bieden aan verschillende bedrijven die ruimte nodig hebben voor uitbreiding.

    Universiteit blij met uitbreiding Utrecht Science Park

    De Universiteit is blij met de uitbreiding van USP. Collegevoorzitter Anton Pijpers: “Life Sciences is een van de strategische thema’s van de universiteit. Er is vrijwel geen plek ter wereld waar zoveel toonaangevende instellingen en bedrijven op het gebied van Life Sciences op loopafstand bij elkaar zitten. The Accelerator is een prachtige aanvulling.” Het gebouw moet begin 2022 worden opgeleverd.

    Een zoals gewoonlijk moeilijk te duiden bericht van Merus in mijn mailbox. Lijkt op een overeenkomst met Genmab om kantoorruimte te delen en bepaalde ontwikkelingen samen te doen. Zou toch fijn zijn als PR Merus ook léésbare PB's produceert of minstens een interview in begrijpelijke taal met Ton Logtenberg.

    Ik blijf hopen...

    Aardig artikel. Lijkt er op dat we de komende maanden wat meer actie mogen verwachten.
    Sinds begin juli al zo'n 20% erbij. Dit gaat de komende maanden naar de 20$ voor mijn gevoel.
