    ArcelorMittal & Numetal may get 7 days to pay dues - Report

    Business Standard, citing sources close to the developments, reported that the committee of creditors (CoC) in the Essar Steel resolution case met on Saturday and considered giving ArcelorMittal and Numetal seven days to clear outstanding dues to become eligible. The sources said “The CoC would, however, have to vote on the resolution to complete the process and notices to the companies would be issued thereafter. The voting could take place on Monday.”

    If the resolution goes through, ArcelorMittal would have to make payments on account of Uttam Galva Steels and KSS Petron to become eligible. Numetal, too, would have make payments to regularise the Essar account due to Rewant Ruia’s exposure in the consortium, even though it is a minority and indirect interest.

    Numetal did not comment, but legal sources said that it was not liable. Neither was Aurora Enterprises, of which Rewant Ruia is the ultimate beneficiary. In any case, Numetal had offered to drop Rewant Ruia, they said.

    Essar Steel is a great opportunity for ArcelorMittal - Mr LN Mittal

    Business Line reported that Mr LN Mittal, CEO and Chairman of ArcelorMittal, is going all out to acquire Essar Steel as part of his ambition to finally enter the Indian market. He told Business Line “I certainly would not describe it as a last chance but it is a great current opportunity for us to establish a meaningful presence in India. And our conviction is that ArcelorMittal is the most credible and suitable custodian for this asset. Essar Steel would benefit from an owner that has the expertise to set the company on a successful track for the future — that means a proper industrial company with management who know how to generate value from a steel plant not just for today but for the longer term.”

    However, for Mittal, the biggest hurdle has been the insolvency laws under which Essar Steel’s assets are being sold. Mr Mittal believes that the existing laws need to be amended. He told “What is remarkable is that this (Essar Steel) is a test case for the new insolvency law; as we have seen, the path so far is not straightforward, as previous owners (the Ruia family) are not willing to give up their assets readily. Many are watching to see whether the IBC will achieve its objectives of delivering a fair return to creditors and a long-term custodian for the asset that defaulted under its previous owners, in a timely manner.”

    Foreign ministers of France, Jean-Yves Le Drian, and Germany, Heiko Maas, stated on Monday that their countries are committed to maintaining the Iran nuclear deal as concerns grow that United States President Donald Trump could pull out of it. "We are determined to save this deal because this accord safeguards against nuclear proliferation and is the right way to stop Iran getting a nuclear weapon," said Le Drian during a visit to Berlin.

    "We continue to believe that this agreement makes the world safer and without this agreement, the world would be less safe," Maas added, warning that "a failure would result in an escalation" and that his country will "do everything" to ensure the deal is kept. The leaders of the two countries, Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel, have recently stated that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is not sufficient, but that they will support it.

    Jefferies handhaaft koopaanbeveling.

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) De goedkeuring, hoewel onder voorwaarden, uit Brussel voor de overname van het Italiaanse Ilva door ArcelorMittal is goed nieuws. Dit stelden analisten van Jefferies.

    Dit geeft de staalreus namelijk de kans om zijn aanwezigheid in West-Europa te optimaliseren. Daarbij zorgt het voor consolidatie op de Europese staalmarkt en wordt een voorheen "ongedisciplineerde concurrent" uit de markt gehaald, aldus de zakenbank.

    Jefferies herhaalde het koopadvies op ArcelorMittal met een koersdoel van 35,00 euro. Het aandeel sloot maandag 1,1 procent hoger op 29,35 euro.
