Kroger, Wal-Mart recover much of market share lost to Lidl, WSJ says Lidl is gaining little traction after expanding in the U.S. with grocers Kroger (KR) and Wal-Mart (WMT) recovering most of the market share they lost when the German discounter opened its first nine U.S. stores in June, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing local market analysis. Lidl, which has opened 37 stores in five five states and plans to operate up to 100, has been unable to sustain traffic and currently does no have a U.S. online grocery-shopping platform.
