Dear Dr.
Please allow me to further clarify; the trial is international as was stated in our press release dated April 21st. This means that in addition to Dr. Osthoff there are other investigators setting up parallel trials across the globe.
In Switzerland, Dr. Osthoff has received ethic committee approval to begin the trial. However, at the moment there are no patients who suffer from severe pneumonia from SARS-CoV-2 eligible to take part in the trial. This is not something that we can speed up or change. This is actually very good news for the country of Switzerland. That being said, however, as previously stated this is an international trial which means that once ethics approval has been received by other national regulatory bodies we will be able to conduct the trial in other countries in parallel.
With regards to “missing the boat” please understand that while we do not know what the future holds for this global pandemic, should our clinical trial produce positive results, we will have a proof of concept that RUCONEST® may be effective in treating cytokine storms and possibly other ARDs. This is also an opportunity to demonstrate the versatility and life-saving potential of RUCONEST®."
