Our system posted a SELL-IF today. The previous BUY recommendation was issued on 12.14.2007 (14) days ago, when the stock price was 1.0100. Since then OPTV has gained 36.63% .

The SELL-IF alert is still valid. A bearish confirmation today however is denied. The pattern is not yet rejected since the day was not a long white candlestick day. The market is indecisive so keep up the good work and continue to do your homework digesting all available information around.

The final judgment about the evolving pattern waits the next session. Either the bearish alert will be confirmed by one of the valid bearish confirmation criteria or the bearish alert will be void and invalid.

It is still your duty to check the bearish confirmation criteria when the next session opens. Reminding briefly, a black candlestick with a downward gap, a black candlestick closing below the previous close and a long black candlestick with a big upward gap is sufficient to confirm the SELL-IF alert though with a one day delay. Sell your shares in any of these cases by respecting the benchmarks. In any other case, simply ignore the SELL-IF alert. The next session is the last chance we allow for bearish confirmation. A confirmation failure renders the assumed bearish pattern totally invalid and starts the process of searching for a new pattern.

The bearish alert is still valid so existing short positions should be carried. New short positions may be considered only in case of valid bearish confirmation.

Today a White Candlestick was formed. This represents normal buying pressure.

Digital broadcasting to be available by local Cable TV
    Sunday, 30 December 2007
Macau Cable TV will be offering digital high-definition broadcasting service starting from New Year Day, Tuesday which will cover the majority areas of the peninsula and the entire Taipa island.
According to Macau Cable TV, the move was introduced to complement the launching of digital terrestrial television (DTT) by the two domestic free television broadcasters in Hong Kong on the same day.

DTT broadcasting will bring to viewers a variety of free program choices, better reception and open up creative platforms for television production.

As the sole and legalised cable television network in Macau, Macau Cable TV had already enhanced its fibre-optic network so that coverage of the new digital broadcasting service will reach 80 percent of the Macau peninsula and the entire Taipa island.

Connecting an existing television set to a digital set-top box via the associated fibre-optic network, residents will be able to view multiple digital high-definition as well as ordinary channels from Hong Kong.

In addition, two new outlets of Macau Cable TV are now in operation in Holland Garden and Taipa Kwong Sing Telecommunications.

Building management boards or landlords councils who are interested in receiving a trial of viewing digital broadcasting, call 28822866 for registration.

Een mooie start voor 2 januari....
    Daily Commentary
Our system posted a SELL CONFIRMED today. The previous BUY recommendation was issued on 12.14.2007 (17) days ago, when the stock price was 1.0100. Since then OPTV has gained 30.69% .

SELL-IF is confirmed by a black candlestick with a lower open. The selling price is today's open ( 1.3500 ) according to the Rules of Confirmation.

Bears are getting stronger. The market hesitated a bit, but finally confirmed the bearish pattern with a one day delay. It opened today with a gap-down and the day’s activity resulted in a close lower than the open. This is a valid bearish confirmation.

We hope that you sold this stock . You should watch the downward gap in the opening, wait a bit, feel the bearish tendency of the market making sure that prices stay below the opening price and then sell your shares. Your benchmark was the opening price of the downward gap. A weakness in prices is implied as long as the prices stay below the benchmark.
If you sold, keep away from this stock until the confirmation of a new BUY-IF signal. What to do if you did not already sell? Maybe, you did not have time to follow the session or you simply delegated the delicate job of confirmation to us. Well, it is a bit late, but not too late. You may still find suitable prices for selling your shares in the following sessions.
The market is an inviting one for short-sellers. Risk lovers may now go for short sale. Today a Black Candlestick was formed. This represents normal selling pressure.

    Voor wat het waard is............kutkoers

New Delhi, Dec. 31 The Indian media industry spread its wings this year like never before, and went places, both in new platforms, technologies and new geographies. Multi-platform entertainment and digitisation is set to change the dynamics in the industry in the coming years.

The year, which started off with the Conditional Access System (CAS) being introduced in pockets in three metros, saw viewers upgrading to digital television. For the million-odd CAS viewers with set-top boxes on the cable platform, there were about 7-8 million others enjoying the benefits of the other new digital platform, Direct-to-Home (DTH).

Dish TV (2.6 million) and Tata Sky (1.5 million), were bringing multi-angle cricket highlights and live darshans to their viewers, some of whom lived in places not yet served by the cable and satellite network which feeds 75 million viewers. The service, which reached Kargil this year, is expected to spread much faster next year. Following Sun network’s launch this year, Reliance, Videocon and Bharti are all expected start their services in 2008.

Tata Sky’s Chief Marketing Officer, Mr Vikram Mehra, says, “Digitisation was a wake-up call for broadcasters who had for too long been dependent on advertising revenue, which is quite fickle. There is a lot of content and a lot more coming next year, the bigger issue is how to monetise this content,” he says. The DTH operators themselves are facing a shortage of transponder space, and will be forced to choose and pick from the multitude of new channels expected in 2008 from both new players and existing ones.

Television networks such as Network18, NDTV and UTV headed to the Alternative Investment Market in London to fund their new plans. The first two, current affairs specialists, announced their plans for entertainment. Network18, which distributed the hit movie Jab We Met, will work with Viacom, MTV’s parent company. UTV and NDTV may also announce strategic investors or partners in 2008. Turner, in association with Miditech, has planned a Hindi entertainment channel for next year. INX Media, UTV’s youth channel Bindaas and B.A.G. films’ news channel were among this year’s launches. Next year’s possible long list includes NDTV general entertainment channel, Imagine, Vir Sanghvi-led NewsX from INX, and UTV’s new proposition. Even BBC and Al Jazeera got more serious about India this year.

However, says Mr Rajdeep Sardesai, Editor-in-Chief, CNN-IBN, “There does seem to be a crisis of content. And that’s paradoxical given the explosion of content across multi-media platforms. The question is whether quality is keeping pace with quantity.” The news during the year was not always good: the untiring coverage of the Rai-Bachchan wedding, of crime, Rakhi Sawant and fake sting operations had the I&B Ministry worried. Its proposed code of conduct in the controversial draft Broadcast Bill is being reworked after the industry raised serious objections.

The debate continues: the new draft bill is expected to be ready early next year. During the year, the government also introduced a new ordinance that forces broadcasters to share live feed with Prasar Bharati of any event judged to be of national interest, particularly cricket.

For, when television viewers were not watching reality or talent shows, they were watching cricket. And there was a lot to sing and dance for those involved with cricket this year. “The inaugural ICC World Twenty20 will top the list of events of the year,” says Mr R. C. Venkateish, Managing Director, ESPN Software India Pvt Ltd. “Never before has any tournament in any sport created such a huge euphoria.” The network’s 2007-born Star Cricket channel achieved record viewership for the India-Pakistan finals.

With India’s victory, advertisers proclaimed the new Twenty20 format as the cricket of the future. BCCI’s Indian Premier League is to reinforce this idea. The new off-the-pitch features seen during Essel’s Indian Cricket League tournament may also continue. Expect to see a lot more cricketainment as well as a slew of advertising starring actors and cricketers together. In short, 2007 was like an episode of a K-soap. All about a prosperous family going places, lots of drama, some melodrama and twists and turns. There is no happy ending, it’s television.

The year 2008 could be the biggest in terms of techno-leaps on the television front since TV came to South Africa in 1976. Viewers can expect a wider choice, with a number of new pay TV channels coming onstream . The much-vaunted high definition television is to be launched — with the first channel operational on DStv in mid- 2008 — in addition to mobile TV.

Since the four new licences were issued — to Telkom Media, On Digital Media, Walking on Water and e.sat — little information has been released .

Telkom Media (take-off date June 2008) is aiming for 10 channels , mainly home- grown and including news, sports, films, children’s and music channels. Little is known about e.tv’s e.sat other than it will be using state-of-the-art technology. We are still in the dark about On Digital, other than it will be aiming to provide competitive sports coverage . Walking on Water will be a Christian channel, committed to “clean” TV .

Multichoice’s DStv will be building on its two-million viewer base with six new channels due in the first six months . In addition to HDTV, all the current BBC programmes are to be relaunched with new names and changed content in February. Also coming up soon is National Geographic Wild and a channel so new it may not yet be identified, aimed at South Africa’s black audiences. — Cas St Leger, TV Editor

One year later, DTH steals a march over CAS

Ashish Sinha / New Delhi January 02, 2008

DTH is still growing month-on-month, while the figures of CAS subscribers have begun to stagnate.

It has been a year since the conditional access system (CAS) was ushered in select areas of Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata to provide quality cable television at low rates, but more consumers in those areas have hooked on to satellite-based direct-to-home (DTH) services. What is more, DTH is still growing month-on-month, while the CAS numbers have begun to stagnate.

“CAS has become stagnant after July with virtually no addition of subscribers. DTH companies continue to grow their subscriber base in the CAS areas by 8-10 per cent per month,” said a media expert who did not want to be named.

Since January 1 last year, when CAS came to these three metros, it has garnered 520,000 subscribers. In the same period, the two private DTH service providers — Dish TV and Tata Sky — have got 600,000 in the same areas to take the total number to 750,000.

DTH, just like CAS, uses a set-top box to decode channels, but also requires an antenna and is costlier to install.

CAS was implemented with the aim of empowering the consumer, who had to pay only Rs 5 for each pay channel. This was expected to bring down the monthly cable bill. The set-top box also improves quality.

The activation charge for CAS is only Rs 250 and one can rent the box for Rs 30 a month. Compared with this, it costs Rs 3,000 to subscribe to the DTH service.

Interestingly, most subscribers who have switched to CAS have taken only free-to-air channels. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has not pushed CAS beyond the select pockets of three metros, a move that was expected six months ago.

“Between south Delhi and south Mumbai, there are about 600,000 DTH subscribers while south Kolkata has about 100,000 DTH connections,” said an industry source.

Industry experts point out that pricing is not an issue in the CAS-versus-DTH battle since CAS is confined to the affluent pockets of Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. (It has been operational in Chennai for a few years, but that is not a part of this study.)

The financial muscle of the two corporate houses behind Dish TV and Tata Sky, the Zee and Tata groups, respectively, has resulted in aggressive marketing and advertising blitz — Shah Rukh Khan is Dish’s brand ambassador — tipping the scales.

Multi-system operators (MSOs), which provide cable services, have been slow in educating subscribers about the quality of their services. There has been little in the name of marketing and advertising from them.

MSOs maintain that CAS has been a mixed bag as it has given consumers a choice of not watching pay channels. “CAS was all about giving consumers a choice. If they have chosen not to watch pay channels, CAS is effective,” says a senior executive of WWIL, the cable arm of Zee.

Leading pay channel broadcasters like STAR and Zee have questioned the Rs 5-a-pay-channel price cap under CAS and its benefits to consumers.

“Cricket is so popular that even in CAS areas consumers are watching it without set-top boxes. Many cable operators indulge in piracy, thereby making a mockery of CAS,” says a sales executive of a leading sports channel.

Under DTH, consumers receive television signals directly from the satellite through a set-top box.

CAS also works through a set-top box but operates on conventional cable lines and involves the intervention of the local cable operator. Consumers have to call the cable operator to activate or deactivate a pay channel.

    US Tech Trends for 2008
[Opinion] Watch for trends in virtual currencies, interactive TV and more

Interactive TV makes a comeback. This won't be like watching Evander Holyfield or Mike Tyson attempting a comeback -- a one-time champ too old and worn out to rise to prominence again. Instead, it will be more like watching a boxer who debuted too early return and live up to his initial promise. This time around the infrastructure is actually cost-effective; the integration of the Internet and TV has created infinite collaborative possibilities; and new entrants (such as consumer electronics makers) are eyeing the market. Interactive TV won't be a media champ; however, it will serve as an important secondary source for information, commerce and social networking. Efforts such as Apple TV (which combines Internet content and television) represent the first step in Internet content being ported to millions of US couch potatoes. With consumer electronics manufacturers eager to capture more of their customers' mindshare, this represents a potential battleground for cable and satellite operators.

Watch for the trends I've spotlighted here to emerge in 2008 and beyond -- and let me know what technology trends you see on the horizon.
